So the club are due to announce the return of a favourite, better with his feet than hands? Welcome back Ryan Allsopp. Followed by an admission from Acun that he totally ****ed up (using Pandur to sort his financial issues out), that Liam was right all along. They promised heart attack football and that’s just the recruitment..
The only thing that makes any sense (well Walt ball sense) is that the goalie role under Walt is absolutely key to his system working. He inherited Pandur and while he has been steady, he has shown nothing to suggest he offers anything special with his feet and along with Macca and Jones is actually responsible for Waltball not working. After his traumatic debut in the cup, he doesn’t want to expose Racciopi. So would rather play the safer bet that is Pandur, until the real deal comes along.I mean three games in (plus friendlies) and he hasn’t even ventured into the oppositions half yet. Pandur to be sold/ go out on loan with a big name, premier league footballing keeper to come in.
If it is Darlow, how can we be sure thats he;'s great with his feet... I was trying to remember back if that was one of his assets... it didnt immediately spring to mind...
So... a big week ahead... who will go , who will arrive.. Just reading that Boro's first choice left back has had achilles surgery and will be out for 6 months ... Giles gone?... at least that puts us in a position to get the money back if they want him that desperately... but what do we have to replace him? Not sure I'd be happy with Coyle that side as it will eliminate width and supply to Millar...
My post was part tongue in cheek, part pedantic. 'Accuracy' should surely be different to 'on target'. I could be 1 on 1 from 5 yards out, aiming for bottom corner but scuff it straight into the keepers arms. On target (in as much as it was heading towards the goal) but with next to zero accuracy. Not that it matters much like .....
Drameh did a good job of replacing him on Saturday. We looked much better after he was subbed. Not sure if he can overlap as well.
If they bring in a top notch keeper and he improves the starting 11 and its not at the expense of strengthening other positions, then I'm all for it at face value. But it does not seem great planning, I'll give people that. But purely strengthening the starting 11 can only be a positive. Keeper could be the difference to sneaking into 6th.
If Middlesbrough are fancying themselves for the playoffs and they see Giles as a big factor in achieving that, why the **** would we sell him to them unless it was for stupid money.
Having a proper plan from the start of the window could have been the difference to sneaking into 6th..
