So, we`ve had 50 days of Hard Labour and it is panning out so far how most sane minded people predicted. It`s only a few weeks ago the likes of Kier Stalin, Rachel Thieves, Angela Drainer etc promised that energy bills would be frozen this winter under a Liebour government, and yet they are going up 10%. Meanwhile, the elderly are being asked to freeze so that train drivers can earn 70k a year instead of 60k, and all while the likes of Reeves keeps her disgusting expenses (including heating allowance). Vintage Liebour.
Didn't you notice the 14 years of lies and incompetence under the Tories...Will take a bit of time to sort that out.
"Under the last Tory government" Remember when people were sick of David Cameron using "Under the last Labour government" as his go-to excuse for inflicting austerity on people? Oh who am I kidding, people don't even remember this... please log in to view this image
He probably will do that in the budget...but he needs legislation and he hasn't had a chance to pass any yet. The difference between the Labour and Tory excuses is that the Labour ones are mostly accurate whereas the Tory ones were lies.
I didn't vote Labour but this is still better than under the Tories...which says a lot about the past 15 yrs
So give me an example of a labour lie from the past week. You should have four or five to choose from if they happen almost daily.
The Director of Ogfem has many delegated authorities from primary legislation and the number of areas where the Government can instruct it is quite limited. And as I've already said reducing the price cap just plays into the hands of the larger companies by making retail competition impossible. Actually the price cap itself is almost pointless as retail prices rarely go above much above wholesale ones in electricity. So they need a complete rethink of how the market works and this will take time and legislation.
So yanking the winter fuel allowance within weeks of coming to power was a genius move then, wasn't it...?
As I already said, it's paid to rich and poor alike and giving tax free benefits to millionaires is a stupid use of resources. But the actual decision is pretty bad too as it affects too many people who are not rich. Hopefully they will come up with something better
Counter point: taxing billionaires and telling them, hey, they still get their winter fuel allowance if it means people who need it get to keep theirs is a more valid solution to the problem that didn't exist until Rachel Reeves made it up
Quite likely there are many better solutions but I've always thought winter fuel allowance was a gimmick. Making poor people richer isn't achieved by giving everyone the same amount of money and not taxing it. As I've said before I would be in favour of a very radical manifesto with a wealth tax, universal income and open borders but I wouldn't expect that to win an election and while I think Starmer is way too cautious at least we have got rid of the corrupt and incompetent Tories.
