i tend to watch on cricinfo, so haven't been seranaded. anyway, for your comfort i also hope the **** ****s off.
Eng on top so far, 120 run lead after their first innings, Smith got his maiden 100. SL lost 2 wickets in the first 2 overs.
the last few sri lankan wickets fell in a rush leaving england needing 205 to win. a third of the way there with three down. just saw a mention that sri lanka's kamindu mendis has scored his 3rd century in only his 4th test. before this game his test average was 107, adding in the 12+113 for this game gives him 553 runs for six outs, making his average 92.167. his other two 100s (and a 92no) were against bangladesh, but his one innings against australia was 61. first class average of 64 so far is nothing to be sniffed at. his test average may well get adjusted to more sensible levels in this series, but that average could still be well placed in that yawning gap between bradman and the rest. one to look out for in the future, i'd say.
could well be. should be 44 more overs today, but with a very later tea break just begun, they'll never fit 44 in before dark.
meanwhile, in the county championship gloucestershire and leicestershire are in day 3 of a game in bristol probably heading for a draw. looks like some time was lost on day 1, somewhere around 90 minutes or 23 overs. leicestershire scored 402 with a century and three half-centuries. in reply, gloucestershire are scoring faster and not losing wickets. they are currently 540/4 and the main reason for this post is that they now have two double-centurions in this innings. ben charlesworth was out for 210 with the score at 447/4 after he shared a 290 partnership with james bracey, now on 205no. they declared at 544/4 with bracey 207no.
and root wraps it up, scoring 50 or more for the 96th time for england in tests. he'll be first english player to do it 100 times. player, 100s, 50s, both tendular 51+68 = 119 ponting 41+62 = 103 kallis 45+58 = 103 dravid 36+63 = 99 chanderpaul 30+66 = 96 ** root 32+64 = 96 cook 33+57 = 90 border 27+63 =90
Randomly have Ben Charlesworth in my fantasy team....absolute bonus! Looking forward to Yorks ****ing up another winning position tomorrow.....
Just about to set off for Scarborough (free entry if anyone is interested). Hoping to see Yorkshire finish the job and get a vital win in the promotion race, but the weather and their habit of ****ing it up make me far from confident
Amazing to see Harry at top of that list below Bradman for those who have played 15 games (or he was prior to this test). That’s an amazing feat, including a full series against Oz! AndI think he has that ability to sustain his average, I just get the feeling he has actually slightly underachieved so far in his career. He gets out when he looks well set, but I just think he makes batting look ridiculously easy.
He’s climbing the chart for most test runs scored in the history of test cricket too. He 7th currently and has averaged around 1000 per year throughout his career, so by the end of 2025 could have passed everyone barring Tendulkar. He’ll probably need to keep going for another 4 years to reach the top spot. Seems to still have the hunger and injuries permitting, could well achieve it. What an achievement that would be!
Cricket question. My son aged 11 has carried his bat for the whole season for his club and also represents East Manchester. So what’s his average if he hasn’t lost his wicket once?
He hasn't got one. Mathematically dividing by zero gives infinity, tell him he needs to get out in the last game of the season.
Not a chance. He is very proud of his record. Ironically he is in the Club team as a batter and the Manchester team as a bowler
6 ft 7 fast bowler by the name of Josh Hull called into the Test team. Shame he plays for Leicestershire!
