Well technically Carragher and Gerrard weren't 'local' because neither is from Liverpool. :bandit:

I think it's safe to say that Warrington is considered local even though, as Donga said, it's wool land.

    True.

But it's half way and it's own town.

Half way to Manchester is hardly local.

    Local is local like.

Anyway if you want to have qunasah as proper academy product then that's fine by me.

What about koumas who came from tranmere at 11 then?

You're right, Warrington is half way to Manchester and if you're shopping there, it's 50/50 LFC and utd merchandise in the shops.

Tranmere , at a stretch I'd say it's local-ish because of its proximity to Liverpool and unlike Warrington, they share the scouse accent.

Indeed. Had this argument with some arsehole on Twitter after the Southport murders, They reckoned the girls weren't Scouse as Southport is not in Liverpool. By that reasoning, Gerrard and Reid aren't Scouse (Huyton), Carragher isn't Scouse (Bootle), and neither was Paul O'Grady or Glenda Jackson (Birkenhead).

Yeah but 5 year old intake v an 11 year old moving over v say a 16 year old like nyoni.

You guys decide which is a "local"

For me curtis and trent are local lads.

You will recall that of the age groups I called out Curtis as easily the best of that particular group amd I've called out
quansah as one to watch too. Yes they are both academy lads so while I'm just making the point jarell isnt a local lad you also know I've backed him all the time

As I said last year there "was" something special brewing in the youths with the forwards coming but we will see now. I don't think the path is as clear any more. Jayden danns is from further out so not local local bit is the top talent that we have not bought on.

With slot I don't think so far i could do a baby reds thread as we simply dont know if he's really going to push the youth.

If I were asked though I'd give the following names

    Josh davidson
    Keyrol Figueroa
    Jayden danns

(Ignore the bought in nyoni and nallo and the new dude ok, they are signings)

I would put carter pinnington down too but when the club buys two cbs into the u21s then this kid might have his path blocked.

I really think this year we are just going to see a realignment of the academy and firsts and mostly culling of numbers.

Yeah. He's forgetting that us parochial northerners think really small. Liverpool is a small port city. All the rest are joined on.

Liverpool is the 4th biggest CITY in the UK.

Liverpool/Merseyside is the 7th biggest AGGLOMERATION in the UK.

Hope this clears things up. :emoticon-0138-think

I think "local" and where home is, is just a state of mind and there's no exactly age, distance, or time.

I bet there are people who moved to liverpool when they were five and lived there 40 years who don't consider themselves scouse, and others that moved there as an adult and considered themselves local after a few years.

Take me, I moved to US 30 years ago... I still don't consider myself American, nor will I ever... My University roommate moved at the same age, within days of me, to the US. He considered himself an American within three or four years of moving here.

Local and belonging to a place means different things to different people... The only one who can say if Quansah, or Nyoni are locals are... Quansah and Nyoni.

I bet half the squad live further away from Liverpool than Warrington though... They disperse to rich places in the countryside.

Also don’t think rewlly matter. I think seeing academy players who have come through is the main thing - mainly as they’ve worked their way through the youth groups and know the club and you’d hope show more loyalty (Trent!!!) plus also helps save you money to buy players for other areas.

Whether they joined at 5 and live outside Anfield or 11 and come from 20 minutes up the road doesn’t really matter.

the signings from other academies at 15/16/17 are different as others have developed most of them but you hope to get them cheaply and continue to develop them

Totally. Quasah is from Warrington and has been with us since 5 years old. He's a Wool. but a Scouse Wool (like the actress Sue Johnston from The Royal Family, imo).

Quansah is one of our own, and that's that. :emoticon-0165-muscl

Yeah but they live quite a ways out too.

Further rout than Curtis and trent
That'd the point about local being local to a parochial northerner.

Hough Green, by Widnes, used to be a funny town like that. It was right on the boundary of the Merseyside area, and I started my railway career there over 40 years ago. I don't know if it's still like this now, but half/two-thirds were Wools, and over the railway bridge into the housing estate was nine-tenths Scouse. As I remember it, the Scouse part was 75%/25% Liverpool/ Everton, and the Wool part was 100% Widnes RL.

Cracking memories. 2 trains an hour in the off-peak and very, very long lunches in The Hammer and Pincers pub. They had to drag me away from that place, I tell you. Happy days.
