Ok. So the person who told me that Clarke would be sold has told me.. It will hit 20m as add ons are in our favour. Sell on its meant to be 15% too. Stings a bit less.
Before the start of this window, we were expecting to lose Clarke and people were wanting the club to sign 2 strikers and a central midfielder. Full back was rarely mentioned. We've brought in Browne to strengthen the midfield, so if we bring Simic and Mendy in up front we've achieved our objective, whilst also bringing in Isidor to give us 2 options at LW, with another coming through the ranks. We also have 2 good options now at RW after bring in Poveda. With regard to strengthening other positions, the biggest problem we have had is not getting fees for any of our fringe players like Embleton and Matete, which probably demonstrates that our squad lacked depth of any quality. I can't see us getting a great fee for the likes of Jewi or Anderson, so do we try to sell Ekwah and Ba to raise funds for another midfielder and a defender? The club may not see the defence as a major priority and it probably wouldn't be if Seelt and Huggins were fit. If we can get these 3 over the line, I think it will have been a decent window, especially if we can move a few more out.
Him and Scout are 2 of the best and most knowledgeable posters on this board, it's weird that they've both been targeted.
So we're looking at getting 16 - 16.5 million out of the deal? (Assuming the add-ons are pretty certain)
Not sure why some are guessing how much was paid, how much we owe Spurs and how many were in for him. Unless you work at the club and know the intricate details of his contract, what was Ipswich's offering and what we were asking for and whose been calling KS about Clarke...then let's be honest, No one has a clue. If the club is happy with the deal, that should be good enough
That’s just not true. The contract was verbally agreed last week, Jack was happy but was then advised to hang fire on signing it (I don’t know if that’s because Harte was talking to Ipswich in the background). If the club always knew and expected he’d go this window why were they investing the time and effort in continuing to discuss and negotiate an extension to his deal? He wants to play in the Prem no doubt but was happy to give us a year to see if he could make it there with us (his ideal scenario) if circumstances allowed. It obviously now seems they haven’t.
It's spot on. I'm all about the balance. You can't criticise the club for selling Clarke at that price unless you're also giving credit to Speakman, Dodds, Proctor et al, for signing and developing him.
Yeah. Will the sell on % too. That would guarantee what I have said for ages that they want to clear 18m after spurs etc.
Ah well if this Clarke he has lied to you as he is in control of signing any contact. He hasn't and left at the first club meeting the clubs evaluation. That's the circumstances right there.
Question, I’ve only had info once and I called the lad a bullshitter, never spoken to me again he was bang on and made 3 grand betting on di canio coming in
Agree. I think it's a reasonable deal for us..probably about right for both clubs. Whether it's a good deal for Jack,I'm a little surprised he's gone there, time will tell. We have Mundle and Poveda who can step into that left side role. Crucial for us now to fill the striker position, and I'm really hoping for some good news on that front later today.
Everyone on the planet knew Clarke would be leaving Sunderland, it was just a matter of time. All the possible buyers were alerted by his agent who may as well have taken an advert on TV. Various clubs enquired and, after all the speculation, this is the very best fee on the table. Clarke, it seems, wants to be in the PL ... ... so what was the realistic option to selling him?
