I struggle to see how £15m rising to £20m is a good price for Jack Clarke and that's without thinking about the fact Spurs are owed a chunk of that! Way I see it, he has been our best player since we came into this league, he is young and English (which usually adds a bit to a fee?). Not only as he been our best player he has been one of the better players in this league! People who are saying well he hasn't done it in Premier league yet so is unproven at that level, well yeah that why it's not £40-50m. If he did in premier league what he did at this level he would be going for a lot more than the £25m that people thought the club were after. Only way I see that as potentially a good deal is if we have a decent sell on fee attached to it! So we could end up making more than the £25m the club supposedly wanted. And I'm still gutted!
Fee could be possibly better but if the deal is as reported and goes through he would still be our 4th biggest sale in our history Says a lot about our player trading past
All any of us should care about is the quality of our squad. How much money was used to trade those players in and out is just numbers. We don’t get extra points for having extra cash in the bank. Let’s judge if it was a good sale in a week’s time. Obviously if we bring like one loan striker in, it looks a poorer sale than if we bring 3-4 quality additions in.
The club will tell us the fee tomorrow. Stewart went from £7million reported to £10.5 million (plus unconfirmed 1.5 extra cos they went up) 30% uplift… same would be sound
Exciting week ahead, hope they pull it out the bag! Best of luck to JC, but got have faith in mundle and hope he develops the same way
I really like how Ipswich are recruiting btw. In recent years promoted teams have basically signed loads of random foreigners. Ipswich are building a championship super team so that if they get relegated they’re ready to bounce straight back. Whilst also giving them a shot at staying up by not having to worry about culture settling in. Smart.
Aye that would do it. Wilson we know was here Weds that’s from the mouth of Zenit president. They’ve maybe held of to give us the **** sandwich, and I’m sound with that if it’s case.
Poor Isidor is going to get a **** welcome from social media as people will just assume the Clarke replacement is a cheap loan.
SAFC twitter has massive headloss on this. Some just bashing the club as soon as they can. my opinion on this is if this funds the rumoured 3 to come in then the team will be in a better place with more quality. The model is working as it should be.
I don't think Clarke will do well in the prem. He doesn't do any one thing (pace, dribbling, finishing, defending etc) brilliantly and to make it at that level you need at least two top drawer attributes. Big fan of the lad and if he leaves us I'll always support him but I think he's pretty much peaked with us. I think prem defenders will be able to close him down fairly comfortably and make him ineffective.
The players we will get massive fees for in this squad are Jobe and Rigg. They are both unique profiles which is what the top clubs look for. Clarke, unfortunately for him, is not a unique player and the fact it's Ipswich he's going to proves that (all respect for Ipswich, great club and a top coach). Rutter is a unique profile who has done well in the Bundesliga and the championship. His ability to carry the ball through congested areas and his final ball is top notch. 40m for a reason. Gray is a unique profile, hence why he's going to a top 4 challenger. Summerville is arguably the best player to step foot in the championship in a long time, his game translates very well to top half PL football. I love Clarke, but there's an abundance of wingers like him.
