I have said all through this window I expect him to leave. Hope I am wrong and if Ipswich is the only option, I hope he tells them to do one due to being so far from his family.
I'm convinced Altidore would have been very good in the Championship. When comparing the leagues, I always think about this: please log in to view this image
His club have been a complete disgrace, we’ve increased our bid and met halfway they should’ve just compromised. they’ve now got an unhappy player on good money doing laps and nothing else.
I do too. 30 years old, stuck in Ligue 2, your club - who had previously agreed to let you go - refusing to sell you, honestly they might have just fuçked the last part of his career, the last chance at an adventure. I doubt he will ever play for them again, regardless if he signs for us.
I get your point mate and it's fair. My issue with him signing is that I didn't think he was all that when he was here last time and he didn't want to stay on. It will be interesting to see who the midfielder is.
Sometimes people think the grass is greener, especially younger lads, but after a year in Turkey he might see that this is a great place for football and as a footballer that is sometimes more important than what is going on outside of the training pitch. I liked him last time, thought he was a little lightweight at first but by the end of the season he was used to the style and adapting to it well. Lovely in possession and could find some nice passes.
If Clarke isn't keen on moving too far south then I don't see a realistic option for him in the Prem. Only really Everton and they couldn't afford him. Could end up being a deciding factor in him staying and seeing how things look next summer.
if the news we have heard has been anywhere near accurate, then safc have had an agreement in place with caen and the player then mbappe and his crew came in and altered the goalposts (nowt in writing so obviously 'entitled' to do this) safc increased the original offer to try to meet caen, maybe 'half way' but it seems they want much more...safc and the team have once again tried to show willing while others have tried to be greedy, right now, a player has lost faith with his club and the owners have shown that other players will struggle to get moves they are set on making. i originally wanted safc to increase the bid, simply because if he was the 'target' then he was worth an extra million or so to save having to search for the next man...it now seems we already had players in mind and moved on quick, no way i wanted safc to pay the 5M that was asked. feel heartly sorry for mendy, he really was set on this move (it might still happen of course) but looks a lot more doubtful by the day, hope he manages to get a good move for himself.
We have to bring in a full back! Otherwise we are left with 6 defenders for 4 positions, that is very light!!
Its only when you hear these names from the past you realise how far this club has come. Its chalk and cheese from the days of Vaughan, Power, Maguire, Lafferty et al.... Love our squad right now... Clarke or no Clarke
Intrigued by the last sentence in that Mark Douglas article about Clarke in the I. “A replacement for Clarke could also be lined up before next week’s deadline.” Wrote more so as a fact rather an opinion.
My ITK mate insisted, this was last summer mind, that Clarke would stay for this very reason. I do feel things are different now, he had a great season last season and he can probably triple his wages easily with pretty much any Premiership club. His family are still in York, he can get down the A1 in a bit over an hour when it's quiet, and he does that regularly. That counts for something, not everything, but something and I'm quite sure geography (as well as wages) will play some part in where he signs.
