Another experienced PL right back on the market. Might be helpful if people look at him rather than KWP
The Saints boss was first asked about how busy the club expects to be in final days of transfer window: "I said that last time, we have a full squad at the moment. We played 11 v 11 yesterday morning and today. "We have had a couple of guys who have been in and out and they are not young guys, they have played hundreds of games, it's only natural we would have to lose a few to bring one or two in. "On the urgency of it all and how important it is, in terms of incomings and outgoings I would expect us to still be busy in towards the end."
I didn't think it was great when we thought we were getting Hugo included permanently but that really does look poor. How have we made next to no profit on a player that was fairly unknown when we signed him from South America but is now a well respected young talent in Europe?
Because it seems like we are actively trying to sell him and there doesn’t appear to be much interest. If he was as good as being made out then lots of teams would be in for him, driving the price up.
Yeah, I mean that is still the best offer / highest amount anyone has offered for him... I also wonder if he has said he wants to go back to South America, after what Russell said about him being a long way from home, having family stuff going on and the general lack of any approaches from European teams
Yes it seems like it would be. Waste of our last loan slot and not very helpful from a profit perspective at all. Guess we really are desperate to get some sales.
Could he homesickness as well of course. I do remember when he first signed him making a big deal about being so grateful we were the team in Europe to give him a chance, repeated it when we were relegated as the reason he was staying iirc. Seems like Europe was a big deal for him so going back to South America so soon must be for personal reasons
Is he a “well respected young talent in Europe”. He’s not getting many offers from Europe for that to be true. Only one was apparently from Lazio for a similar price to what we paid. Perhaps we really are drastically over rating him based on a few good games in half a season where everyone around him was dire
Hugo would count as one of our 4 total loans for the season but wouldn’t need to be registered due to his age, so we can still loan someone else in as well
Are you sure? I find the loan rules super confusing. It seems like we can only register two players as loans in total. End of. Doesn’t matter where they come from.
Yes, players who are 21 or younger on the 1st September 2024 don’t need to be registered. I believe whether they are on loan or not doesn’t matter but may be wrong. So Ugochukwu doesn’t need to be registered but would count as our loanee from Chelsea still
I'm not saying he is a world beater, but without doubt he is well respected across Europe. You don't get signed by Juve and then attract interest from Lazio at 21 if you aren't rated.
