I love driving. Will drive anything. First vehicle I drove was a snow plough . My wife has an all electic and loves it. I dont like it because of the lack of engine. Like you I like the noise and the feedback engines give you. I am an old school driver I think, I like to feel the road in contact with my feet. I am on the look out for an old sports car to make me smile on the country roads. Toying with a Fiat x1 at the minute. Keen on a Lotus Elise as well. A mate of mine will winter it for me, with his collection of Mitsubishis, which just magnificent to drive. Any recommendations well received.
I love old Fords mate, I have a couple old cars that I plan to put back on road, but the holy grail for me is an Old Ford. Mark 3 RS be the one. I have a Corrado VR6 which has only done 32,000 miles but timing chain snapped, been stood for 6 years now (I bought it broken, never sorted it) and a 205 GTI which was bought cos it was all I wanted when I was a kid. That’s actually still alive but is cosmetically a bit of a clip. I’d have about 30 cars if was up to me, wish I’d kept all my old ones. Fiesta RS, Golf GTi marks 2/3/4. Issue with modern cars is they don’t let you do what you want in them. Can turn everything off in both our cars and they will still decide e Pugh is enough. That 205 GTI you can legit do whatever you want in it and it will let you. Would love a Sierra xr4 and an Orion as well. Just loved 80s cars. You mention Mitzi’s, had an Evo 7 few years back and when it wasn’t overheating that thing was magnificent.
Years ago. Like probably 10 year ago, I remember you saying you’d love to get an old Escort Mexico and do it up. Did you ever get your dream?
There's an old boy round the corner from me got one. I've never seen it on the road. He just seems to be outside tinkering with it whenever I walk past. Lovely car though.
Guy 2 doors up from us has one, just to rub it in. Fully restored it’s an absolute beauty, he brings it out every now and then in good weather. I’m fixed on a Mark 3 RS now if I do get an Old Ford like. They just such crazy money.
Thirty years of shift work has given me the same problem. Still, when I retire in a couple of years I’m hoping that my screwed up body clock will reset!
I'm on my first night shift back after 6 weeks off. Prior to being off I had sickness, nausea, abdomen pains etc etc. Was sent for bloods, stool sample, ecg, CT scan and what not. All fine. Second doctor said it was booze. Well after the first week off, I felt fine the other 5 weeks, and I drank every night So it wasn't the fookin booze If it returns I'll be putting 28 days notice in to come off nights
Beaut mate. Mark 2 or 3? My RS was a mark 3 used to lift the back wheel if you flung it round a corner. To this day one of the best cars I’ve ever had to drive, nothing flash about it at all. Sold it for like 2k be worth close to 20k now I’d imagine.
Mark 3 mate. “Proper” car! “. None of these fancy computers to help you do anything. Have to actually drive the thing. Mate has had this for around 20 years, but only started working properly on it during lockdown. I’m useless with the mechanics, despite my dad working for ford his entire life as a mechanic!! I went into computers instead! He’s looking at a capri at the minute! They are rapid in the extreme! But they cost a fortune even for a beaten one!
Ah class mate. They did a 1.8 for a small while but the 1.6 was a better car. Loved my RS, was so ****ing basic gearstick was long as **** just straight out the middle of floor. Genuinely think that was my favourite car ever. Was only 19 used to get stopped 4-5 times night round Seaburn in it, a mix of ‘no way this is insured’ (it was; I lived at home, cost like 4k year to insure..) and me constantly having the fog lights on cos as a young chav, I thought it looked mint. ANPR wasn’t a thing so being stopped multiple times was a thing then
