Useful to have that decided a week before the deadline rather than a day or so. Seems like it could have been earlier though
Raheem Sterling on loan on deadline day after Chelsea fail to shift him on a heavily subsided wage contribution loan deal
Will be interesting to see where he actually goes though. It probably is going to be one of the “Other 14” isn’t it? I’m not sure he’s technical for clubs on the continent. And surely Saudi can’t keep bailing Chelsea out of their mistakes
I agree - my only comment would be, the other 14 excluding Newcastle and villa, plus maybe West Ham or Brighton as they most likely see them as European spot contenders
Now Mara has gone we could go for a more central player, and see BBD and Armstrong as wide players. Would mean we are stacked out wide in terms of numbers, so no need to find another winger. But light centrally with just Archer and Stewart
Perhaps. And having a loan slot available might help here as well. Although have decent strikers are such a rarity that most aren’t available for loan. This current rumour seems similar profile to Archer - as in being quick and a finisher rather than any kind of significant physical presence He also seems like he’d be expensive as well and I can’t see us paying a big fee for another central striker having spent 15m on Archer. We can’t really spend 15m on bench players but a higher priced striker likely puts Archer on the bench regardless of what system we play Which is why I’m slightly confused by this link (and the consistent calls on Saintsweb for a new striker as if they are just pretending Archer doesn’t exist or he has joined to be the Mara replacement on the bench just because the deals are happening close together). Could well be out of date and come from before we signed Archer I would expect that if we sign another player who can play through the middle then they will also be a wide attacking option as well. Because that seems to apply to all the players we currently have who can play as the central attacker
The talk that we won't be using our second loan slot on a GK is quite exciting, because hopefully we can now use it to get an outfield player who might otherwise have been outside of our price range. Obviously not someone from Chelsea - which is a shame, given they have a whole squad available for hire - but that still leaves a number of other PL clubs to speak to.
