I don't think that is necessarily true. My theory is that Levy sacks managers when they stop doing what they said they would do when they were hired. I think the only exception is Jol. Everyone else started to lose the plot.

    The numbers are in.

Two seasons for a new manager to prove competence
and upwards progression from their predecessor.
Those that cannot deliver, will be found out (usually before then) .

"I think the only exception is Jol. Everyone else started to lose the plot."

The only exception for the above is Conte
(and then because I generously put the on-pitch
collapse in 2023 solely on his physical/mental health) .

Only just clocked the memorial tree part and remembered about your little lad.

Wishing you and your family all the best mate, stay strong.

I think with hindsight we can say that Poch started to lose the plot, but it wasn't at all apparent at the time and he had done more than enough to deserve at least a season to bed in new signings after a year of signing no one, and start building the Chapter 2 he'd been talking about for many months.

His dismissal was extremely harsh imo and our choice of successor confirmed that it was actually Mr Levy himself who'd temporarily taken leave of his senses, rather than Poch.

I think it was obvious to Levy that Poch had changed and he had Mourinho whispering in his ear that he could get more out of the squad than Poch could. The wrong call was made but I can see why.

    <applause>

    This, this and this.

I hope someone up in the ivory tower has taken note of what Captain Scarlett has done down the road, and how much he was backed. Finished 8th in his first two seasons, the overwhelming majority of Goons wanted him gone after that, and the few who didn't climbed aboard the Arteta Out bandwagon after we pipped them to 4th in his third season.

    Just look at them now.

The profile of our signings certainly suggests that we're buckling in for the long road.

It makes absolutely no sense to make demands on your manager that must be delivered within 12 months, but in the same breath only buy players who will help him deliver on those demands in 24-36 months.

I'm sick of all the chopping and changing. Unless the football is dire or we look like being dragged into a relegation fight, Ange stays.

Ange was a huge risk of an appointment by Levy. I don’t think Levy will sack him unless things go drastically wrong.

I’ve never been convinced by Ange (search my posts when he was appointed and I voiced my concerns then and he’s done nothing since to alleviate them) but the club have let him sign a lot of players so he needs time to show why he signed them.

The fact he signed Werner (twice) and Brennan Johnson (for such a big fee) when wingers are so vital in his system is probably the most worrying though.

Half convinced bringing him back was basically our good deed for the year, doing a charitable gesture for someone we pitied. It obviously won’t happen this window but I really hope there’s a break clause in January, because all jokes aside it really is a waste of a squad space and those spaces are very valuable at the moment.

Watching Moore again last night as well, he’s just different. Was making League One players look like Sunday league lads nursing hangovers from the night before. Genuinely see zero reasoning why he shouldn’t be in the squad for Everton, convinced he’s already better than Werner at the least and after Johnson’s performance Monday night I don’t see why he should be above Moore either at the moment. We’ve got a genuinely generational talent on our hands, one that might actually be capable of going onto Kane’s level over the years. Didn’t think I’d be saying that so soon after Harry, these players usually come around once every 30-50 years from your own club.

The DoF is responsible for signings, not the coach. We have a very young squad so I understand why getting an experienced player like Werner in cheaply is sensible. Brennan Johnson could turn out either way. If either decision was wrong then that is not due to Ange.
All manager/coach appointments are risky in a way, but the numbers who do very well or cause actual harm are both small compared to the vast majority who seem to have little effect. If you assume our rightful position is 5th or 6th with some uncertainty then none of our recent managers has outperformed or underperformed except Ramos who had poor league results but won a trophy.

    Ledley King.

    Then probably Sol Campbell, sadly.

And Hoddle would be the one before him, I'd imagine.

So it's clearly more frequent than DH has said, but more than once a decade is very unusual.

    Probably Hoddle I’d say.

I’d love to say Ledley because even with one knee he was phenomenal but his injuries scuppered what could’ve been a truly superb career.

The DoF should be responsible for signings but I’m pretty sure Ange has a huge say in who is signed.

Yeah he’s the first youngster in a long time I’m certain can make it at the very top and to see dross like Werner get named on the bench ahead of him is frustrating as hell.

Give Moore half hour towards the end of games to sink or swim instead of Werner who we all know will do exactly the same as he always does.

Conor Gallagher signs for Atletico Madrid. Glad that has happened as I was worried he would end up at Spurs and don’t rate him at all

There is a bit of a paradox with our wide players at the moment: Son and Kulusevski are the best players we have in their respective positions - but Johnson and Werner are the ones best suited to Ange's tactics

Obviously the best solution is Mikey Moore clicking, which will hopefully happen over the season and see Werner's loan tick down

A minimum of 30 mins, certainly no less.
Not HG, but I'm already thinking that Bergvall also has everything it takes to be a very special player <cheers>. I can understand why Ange might not throw him in from the start of all games at this stage, but he's another that needs a good half hour to bed in and develop that talent at PL level.

Imo Moore will learn a lot quicker and a lot more by getting 30 mins PL than anything else.

Yeah I like the look of Bergvall, raw talent with huge potential too.

Really wouldn’t surprise me to see both as first team regulars by the end of the season if they are given a chance.

Moore looks like an absolutely amazing prospect, but he needs to be managed properly, for his own good as much as anything.
We need to learn from the likes of Michael Owen and Wayne Rooney.
They both had a ton of talent and very respectable careers, but they burned out too quickly and were overplayed early on.

Moore looks like the real deal. I'd like to see him play at the top level for a very, very long time.
