Paul O’Keefe is saying that we’re looking to add a GK this window, with Tomasso Martinelli being a player we’re interested in
Just seen this too. He’s 18 so another one for the future. Personally think the club need a keeper with experience to compete with Vicario or if Vicario gets injured.
We're currently in a weird spot with keepers, as we have the experienced backup in Foster (but he's currently injured) while also having a glut of promising youth keepers (Gunter and Keeley especially) but no young keeper who we could reliably give minutes to in the cups ...of course, free agency does offer us the opportunity to do the ultimate troll move and sign Szczesny, only to never pick him for the matchday squad
Gonna be interesting to see whoever comes in now. Any new signing is likely to come at the expense of a current player and that’s excluding Lo Celso, Reguilon and Solomon. Someone is either getting left out of a European squad or will be sold. My money would be on Bissouma or Richarlison but might be one or two dark horse bets as well before the window shuts.
My money was on Bissouma, especially after the latest incident, but yesterdays MF performance may well have given him a lifeline if he gets a game at the weekend and makes a positive impact.
Yeah Bissouma is definitely the leading candidate I'd say. I am now wondering though if a winger could also be a possible casualty before the window shuts? We've got the quantity but seemingly little quality and Yang is also due to arrive in January which further adds to the numbers. It's expected that Solomon will depart but I do think there's an outset possibility one other could maybe go too if an offer arrives late in the window.
I also think it’s fair to say we may loan Yang out for half a season then bring him into the fold once Werner’s loan is over. On 6s, I think it a bit of a lean market at the moment. Onana would have been a nice signing but he went for CL football which is understandable. I think we’ve gambled a bit this summer. Gray and Bergvall are two players we’re clearly hoping will play themselves into starting roles throughout the season and develop into class options at 6 and 8 respectively. But they’re both quite raw at PL level and will take time to bed in. Both look like they’ll get plenty of game time which is good in that pursuit. But neither are quite ready to start, perhaps. I think if we were to buy at 6 if Bissouma got sold, we’d look for an Endo type of player - good at many things but a bit short of elite - with a view to keeping game time available for Gray to ensure he keeps developing.
Bissouma should be told to find a club as he won't be in any of our squads. Really missed at his moronic behaviour. Richarlison ain't leaving as no one will pay more than £25m for him in Europe and he has said he won't go to join Ronaldo and Co. My biggest fear is that we sack ange and then find ourselves in another mess of a manager coming in and not wanting certain players etc...currently have players signed by Pochettino, Conte and Ange (think all of JM and Nuno ones have been sold/loaned out).
Looks like Bradley Locko's a no-go: he's ruptured his Achilles in training, which pretty much ends his season
I think he'll be back in the squad for Everton to be honest, Bentancur will miss it through concussion suspension so one of Bissouma or Gray will start as the other takes a seat on the bench I'd imagine. As for Ange, unless we go on a really abysmal run I think he has until after Christmas at the least. By then we'll know if we're still in Europa or not, same goes for the League Cup and then our position in the league. If things are decent to good he'll be fine, if we struggle, then I think we all know what Senor Levy will do.
I would be livid if we sacked Ange to be honest. We’ll get nowhere if we keep chopping and changing. Given how we have recruited and the way the squad is being shaped to fit his needs this is clearly a team that is going to keep growing together and will need time. That shouldn’t preclude strong performances in the league and this group should be able to give the cups and EL a good go as well, this season. But I don’t think more change is a good thing mid-season, unless we’re on relegation form, which I think would be an overreaction to predict based on one game.
As with all clubs and managers it'll be based on results as to whether we do or don't. In his own words he talks about how second seasons are generally successful under him and he's also spoken of how the players are more prepared to handle his demands so in theory the club and fans are likely expecting better than a sort of "par for the course" debut season that had as many ups as there were downs. As I said to RCL, I think he's got until after Christmas as the sort of Leeway marker point. By that time I presume we'll know if we're in the knockouts of Europa, progressed in the League Cup and will have a rough idea of how the League will pan out. If things are positive or even neutral, I'm sure he'd be safe, if things are negative, then it's a case of we know what to expect.
I assume/hope it’s the DoF’s job to be continually pushing the manager and coaches on how we’ll be improving things like attaching variety and defensive performance, whether through how we’re training, or adding players or coaches to the mix. Lange and his team need to be pushing on that because Ange needs to be challenged to prove he can deliver these things at the highest level he’s coached. As long as there’s a plan for continuous improvement then I think we can all accept that there will be bumps in the road. I hope we can see the right direction of travel through this season.
We need to stick with Ange. But the current squad isn't at all bad for typical Spurs football after the Mourinho/Conte debacle. So any incoming coach shouldn’t need to change very many players. Paticularly since well over half our squad is young and can be moulded to any new coach's particular requirements
One game in and you’re talking about when and if to sack Ange. We need continuity now to reach our goal. We are clearly building a squad for the future so what we don’t want, is to sack Ange whilst we are going this. I think he’s here for the longer term and Levy has no intentions of sacking him this season.
The plan for improvement obviously needs action too, everyone can do a PowerPoint presentation so to speak and say where we can be in 2-5 years time but if the signs dictate otherwise then questions will naturally be raised. It’s all very hypothetical talking though at the moment. Ange’s future is in no way in danger, it’s just that after Christmas that’s generally a time where you can gauge where your club is heading, not just Spurs but any club in general.
I don't want Ange gone...think we need to give him until the end of 25/26 season as a minimum. Changing managers so regularly has cause this mess tbh. He is only 12 months into sorting out a complete car crash of a squad. The only player we'd have wanted to stay (out of those moved on) was Kane. Hoejberg, Lloris, Dier, sanchez, Skipp, Sessengon Winks, Ndombele, Moura, Tangana, Rodon, Royal and Peresic have all gone permanently. That's 14 in a year. Then there have been others on loan cos we couldn't sell (pay off) such as: Gill, Spence, Reguilon. That's a massive reshaping of the squad. I prefer the football we are playing much more than what I saw under JM, Nuno and most of Conte's time but do get frustrated at our failure to take chances. Yesterday I was very frustrated but mainly at life and think that showed in my posts on the match thread but after visiting my son's memorial tree today (always a very calming thing for me) I think I've a better perspective. I really want to see us take the league cup and the EL seriously (along with the fa cup) and will gladly see us miss out on the top 4 if we win a cup.
TBF that's on me. But in my defence, I was just saying it's a fear! And he has form with his treatment of Jol and Pochettino
The numbers are long in. A Spurs manager who has not significantly moved the team forward by the end of season 2, is gone.
