Seriously went crying to Aaronaldo that he didn’t like being teased :emoticon-0148-yes: ….he has spent 10 years on there basically posting the same thing every day, and to be honest it’s pretty boring.

Every August without fail he posts that we need to “wait ten games before commenting on the team” …and then sadly ignores his own advice.

    Why is 'XG' so fashionable?

To be honest I don't even know exactly what it is.
Taking a guess, it's a method of extrapolating how many goals a team should * have scored, based on data gathered during a period of play (a half or a whole match). But only available after the event?
(* should have according to the egghead who invented it)

If it was a way of predicting goals that should be scored then punters would be using it to clean up at the bookies.
    Unless it just doesn't work.

So what actual use is it?
If a team's XG ends up much higher than the goals they actually score doesn't that just mean they were unlucky or wasteful in front of the opposition's goal mouth?
And if their XG is lower than goals scored, that they just had the rub of the green?
Seems to be nothing more than a synthetic stat.
A means to pin a number to how lucky/unlucky or wasteful/clinical a team was on the day.

Would a football manager actually change his tactics or even long term strategy based on XG numbers gathered?
I wonder what Leicester City's XG was during the season they ended up Champions of England.

I can truthfully say I have never heard a single Charlton fan talking about Xg. I have travelled to over 70 away grounds watching us , some unfortunately in the company of @ElfsborgAddick and never once on train journeys etc has anyone started a convo about our “Xg” or “XgA” (Hawtrey’s latest one).

As a topic, it’s very limited to nerds & geeks, or fans with no real passion in life.

My take on XG is that it’s a set of data that tells people what they should be able to work out for themselves. For instance I don’t need XG to tell me we created next to nothing against L Orient. We won tho which is the only important stat.

why Seriously Boring knocks himself out on this god only knows unless the clue is in the title for him

Football is all about opinions and Xg is the computer's opinion, which it is perfectly entitled to.

Sounds superficially exciting because it has 'X' as part of it's name.

I was watching Kes the other day and that amazing scene of Brian Glover taking the football class. He reminded me of another delusional character elsewhere. Imagine Xg in them days and what they wouid have thought of it!!!

Xg is for the unthinking or those malleable people who are easily manipulated. Why think when computers can do it for you!,
Xg stats are better explained by sayings like “utter gash””garbage “superb” “inconsistent “” not going anywhere with this lot “ “ we’re going up “ “worldie finish “ etc….you know the types of things we see with our own eyes and respond accordingly.
We know what happens at football. We might score,we might not. We find out ourselves on the day so Xg should be binned. It’s utter gash!

Alan Campbell signing from Luton, but no advance info from Global, who recently assured his devout disciples on ITTV

“everyone knows I have a direct line to the boardroom”

I am wondering why Global has been blindsided on the Campbell deal ?

Maybe the SMT can’t afford to offload another three trays of free prawn sandwiches on him , next time he visits. Maybe Global’s Nokia phone has finally conked out ?
