Our schedule from here to end Sept is one match a week. After yesterday,no immediate need to rush Ballard or Browne back, until they're properly ready.
I said to the lads yesterday that Rigg reminds me of Foden the way he just glides across the grass and the way he seems to turn quickly into space. He is a real classy player, looking forward to seeing him develop over the season.
do you think being on Sky has an affect? I must confess for me, I'm much more likely to drive up to the game if I'm not able to watch it on Sky (I don't do streams)
Have to agree with you there. Unfortunately we dont have the luxury of a same level player sitting on the bench or in the stands. Keeper, Patto, Moore Centre Half - Ballard, Alese, 09, Triantis Right Back - Hume, 09 Left Back - Cirkin, Alese Then you have Johnson, Crompton from the U21's, Seelt back at Christmas Midfield 3 we have Jobe, Neil, Rigg, Browne then Adil, Ekwah, so 5 for 3 positions Left Wing, Clarke, Mundle, Watson Right Wing, Roberts, Mundle, Ba Add a striker to that lot and we are in good shape imo with options from the bench and over a long season plenty of game time for everyone if injuries, suspensions hit home. Yes some players are listed in a couple of positions, but i dont think the quality would drop massively for a few games, they are all decent players. We just dont have the luxury like the "big clubs" to have quality in reserve in every position
Watching the highlights back - I love how its an instruction to get a midfielder close to Roberts so he has someone to connect and combine with. It was Browne last week then Riggy today. Roberts loves those quick couple of bounce passes as it opens up those spaces he loves to dribble into. Hume around the outside to take a man away giving Roberts more options on the ball too. No coincidence we're seeing the proper Paddy Roberts as a result! We're so much more direct and looking to get people in behind the defensive line. This element of fast, aggressive attacking play is really good to see. The 4th goal epitomised it, Jobe wins the header, Riggy brings it down and then spins a lovely channel ball for Clarke, knowing he'll already be on the move. A simple ball across and Mayenda is there for the tap in. I struggle to think of many tap ins created for any of our strikers last season, we need more of those. The press was good yesterday. Dan Neil industrious in the build up to the freekick for the first, O'Nien pressures the mistake from Windass for the second goal. A lot of sides in this league will struggle to break it. Riggy is a Rolls-Royce and Jobe has been superb so far. Browne might struggle to get back in, as impressive as I thought he was down Cardiff. Poor Josh Windass. Fouls Clarke then loses Cirkin for the first, tries a silly flick under pressure from O'Nien that leads to the second and then plays O'Nien onside for the third. Two games, two wins. Have we ever done that?! Six goals scored and two clean sheets. Its great to see. A very tough test next week against Burnley who at the moment look like they're going to run away with the league, but no reason for our boys not to be confident.
I think it’s good that we have Burnley next. Worst case scenario we 6 from 9 and a good start, but will proper show us what we are about against the best side in the league.
It is. Looking at it though don't even think it's right think they were on about manager winning his first two matches as 18 years ago was Keane in the championship after Quinn and his brief stint as manager?
I think we won our first 2 games once during League One. The stat they said was our first time winning both our first games at championship level since Keane.
You are right about league 1. Think the stat was on about manager winning first two games as Quinn was manager first in Championship the season Keane came and we didn't win the first two that year. Now that I think about it did they not mention its first time we have won fiest two at that level (second tier) since 74-75 or summit mad?
It was the Sky situation that put me off going tbh. The difference was setting off at 6am and home for 8pm knackered ... ... or a lazy Sunday and a walk along the beach then on to the pub in the harbour. I went because I thought I should show support for the new manager and the club. It turned out to be one of the best SOL days I've had. Met up with two great lads at the Fire Station and another two, up from Sheffield and Doncaster, in the ground, both SC holders and RTG posters. We used to pick up Sheff when I ran the bus from Mansfield, 40 years ago, so always good to meet up
