I go on his track record which is not great. Also, we tend to bring in players who are either cheap or have potential, on loan. Sincerely hope he proves me wrong.
His height would as Southwell says, "offer a different dimension", though Idah was also tall and fairly pacey, but never really used it. It's a bit of a gamble, but £8.5m+ makes that reasonable. Presumably he'll be on considerably lower wages so there shouldn't be under much pressure. I can see him as an impact sub initially but the real test will come if Sargent is injured. Barnes is seldom effective up front so Yildirim would have a big role to play. The proof will be on the pitch certainly.
Yildirim scouting report: “Bertug Yildirim is a 20-year-old young striker who is primarily deployed as a target man. He has a good physical profile, however, still needs to improve the technical side of his game. He looks to play off limited touches in the build-up and lacks the confidence to hold on to the ball. He shows good movement to drop deep in the build-up and also makes smart runs into spaces behind the backline, however, needs to be more clinical in front of the goal. He has a good aerial ability and poses a threat from crosses. In the defensive phases, he showed an excellent work ethic for his team as he constantly applies pressure on defenders and is an effective presser. Bertug is still very young and needs to improve certain attributes of his game to play at a higher level in the future.” https://totalfootballanalysis.com/t...ext=He looks to play off,in front of the goal.
Looks to be confirmed €5m https://turkish-football.com/norwich-city-strike-transfer-deal-with-rennes-over-bertug-yildirim/ Norwich City have struck a deal with Rennes over the transfer of Turkish striker Bertug Yildirim as a replacement, sources have told Turkish-Football. A deal is now in place and Yildirim is expected to join for a €5m transfer fee.
Yildirim deal is off. He didn't pass the medical according to Connor Southwell. https://www.edp24.co.uk/sport/24521945.norwich-citys-pursuit-rennes-bertug-yildirim/ Next.
According to Nick Mashiter, he didn’t exactly fail the medical but a potential knee issue was found which the club didn’t want to take a risk on
Thorup said in his press conference today that they were looking at a number of options and that they weren’t looking to make a quick decision but the right one
That's confirmed here as well: https://insidefutbol.com/2024/08/15/bertug-yildirim-did-not-fail-norwich-city-medical/656769/
Wagner was very reluctant to play the academy boys https://www.pinkun.com/sport/matchreports/24524563.norwich-u21s-6-1-west-brom-myles-double-city/ Norwich U21s 6-1 West Brom: Myles at the double for City
Looks good with electric pace and good feet under pressure. Would seem to be a good fit for what Thorup wants.
Well done the young guns. Wagner was fighting for a promotion place and got it. We don't have to worry about that this season.
Wagner didn't get it - other teams threw it away. With 6 games to go there were at least 3 teams who could, or even should, have beaten us to 6th spot but even though our performances in those games were average the other teams fell apart and we kept 6th spot enabling us to get the inevitable hiding in the play-offs. IMO another season of Wagner and his dreadful tactics would have finished the Club and ended any lingering patience the fans had. The American owners advisers realised this, appointed Knapper and big changes were inevitable. The only thing I give Wagner credit for is that he kept going when he knew he would be out of a job at the end of the season. As Robbie implies, we now have several younger players who have little experience of the first team because of Wagner wanting, and always playing, the likes of Barnes and Duffy. This season is undoubtedly going to be a challenge because of the scale of change needed but surely we have to wait until the end of the transfer window before passing judgement on our squad and the end of the year before passing any judgement on our overall performance in the league.
Looks more like a Sargent replacement to me; less positionally versatile than e.g. Yildirim. Ironically, was out for 2 months earlier this year with a knee injury!
Ante Crnac, €11m package from Rackow, 20 year old LW or attacking midfielder, deal finalised according to Fabrizio Romano. This has come from left (sic) field. Edit:- and Kamara has put in a transfer request.
What the hell is going on? We have a Head Coach in place who is prepared to give youth a chance and first Rowe and now Kamara want to go.
Just watched a video of him, left footed, 6'3", seems really mobile and pick a good pass. Playing in Poland, Croatia previously. Bundesliga Bremen announced they had bought him so maybe we gazumped them.
