Fair point, I can't claim to know all that much about him, or Celtic's European form, first hand. But I'd trust Martin and he is the only one involved that has spent a year coaching both players.

and Aribo may yet come good!

The Goztepe stuff is really beginning to piss me off. Stinks of Rasmus.

Strangely accepting we are probably on SS Titanic is more comfortable than losing to Sunderland while on SS PisstheLeague. It is what it is. The few highs will be higher and the lowest are expected. I just want the season to start and see how it goes good or bad and cling on to the hope that 3 other clubs have melt downs.

Does it? Seems more like Trabzonspor taking the piss.

To a degree, but I can't really think of a single Saints fan that gives the first arse about Goztepe in reality. If we're subsidising them through deals with our own players (as we have done slightly with these mystery Brazilians), it's a sure fire way to alienate your main fanbase.

But if nobody cares then I don’t see why it would alienate fans?

Just seems like an extra potential revenue stream to me. Still too early to know how it’s all going to work out, but remember it’s win win win!

Nobody cares about the success of Goztepe in reality (in our fanbase). Of course they'll start caring if we are subsidising them from our meagre cashpot though.

Imagine not wanting a player because he is "too creative" Absolute madness.

And so far there is no evidence of that. I think all the signings so far have been free transfers? Talk of a fee for Juan but nothing confirmed yet

I don’t see an issue with it so far, seems a bit odd that we aren’t using Valenciennes more as well

Be interested to know whose accounts the Brazilian wages are from. If there's any truth (which there probably isn't) to this idea that we'd accept a lower fee for TP, if they loan some players to Goztepe though, that's a line we shouldn't be crossing. Unfortunately Ankersen is arrogant enough not to care.

I’m not sure this is necessarily the way to look at it. Potentially there is (rightly or wrongly) a combined budget for all the clubs SR own - coming from Dragan I assume

Per transfermarkt the two players being offered are valued at €5.5m - that SR won’t need to put into Goetzpe. The optimistic interpretation is that the money can come to us. Although PSR rules is the snag there. And if the players are only loans then that rules out that reasoning. But those two on loan would arguably amount to a lower value deal than the one offered first

I’m just not sure I’d be so keen to assume that SR are planning on siphoning the limited budget of the premier league club that is the most notable part of their stable of clubs to prop up the other one. I just think that’s a stunningly bad faith interpretation of what is going on. The lack of clarity isn’t great. But assuming the worst doesn’t seem right to me

If Onuachu ends up on loan to Goetzpe with us paying most of the wages - that’s when those kinds of posts would make more sense in my opinion

I just don't think we should be subsidising another club, whilst in the position we're in. The idea of selling a player for less, to get a couple of loans from the buying club into Goztepe makes me feel icky. Plus I ****ing hate Rasmus, which is probably the problem.

Does whether Ankersen cares or not matter? What is his actual role? Does he ultimately sign off on the agreement to sell Onuachu? Is he the boss of someone who does? (I don’t actually know all of these answers)

What about my post suggested we were subsidising them? I said the opposite and pointed out that I didn’t agree with people jumping to the assumption that we were precisely because of how little sense it makes

I'm not suggesting your post was saying that - but it's what that rumoured deal for Onuachu (which is probably nonsense) would suggest. If that went through, it would annoy me.

Both Goztepe and Valeciennes have a better chance of of making Europe than we do due to the weaker leagues they potentially could operate in and therefore increasing revenue streams for the “central SR pot” Greg was alluding to it may benefit Saints.

I appreciate they aren’t close to doing it anytime soon and Valenciennes are in the third tier, but they probably have a better chance of getting a European spot before us

He's in charge of the Goztepe project now, as I understand it, but as a part owner of SR he only really answers to Dragan, so would have influence on whether a deal is signed off or not, I have no doubt.

Yeah, I'd like to know some financial details here. I can't get annoyed by any of this because I have no idea what's going on.

The tiny amount of research I've done suggests Turkish football is possibly very corrupt, with allegations of false accounting, government cover-ups and so on. If the financial rules are looser in Turkey it may be easier for SR to inject money into Goztepe and then help us out by having Goztepe pay Southampton inflated loan fees for players. Or yeah, we may be subsidising them. But I'm not sure why anyone would do that. Goztepe and Valenciennes may get into European competitions before us but I very much doubt either could be successful enough to match Premier League income.

Certainly seems like you're probably about right with the first part. So I ask again, what possible benefit is there to Southampton FC of this multi club ownership scheme, if we're simply there to subsidise foreign clubs? Genuinely bizarre how much our fans like or are apathetic towards SR. I'm yet to see a single benefit of their ownership model, and by the looks of this transfer window, we're getting **** all for our team. I couldn't give a single **** about Goetzpe and what they achieve.

With Charlie, why sell him in an attempt for the Celtic bloke, who let's be honest, we'll get gazumped right at the last minute and end up buying some noddy midfielder from the championship purely because he fits RM's style of play? Charlie can play in the PL and Russ should change his system both to fit him and because it's way too risky at this level.

Well they definitely will do if we keep subsidising them!
