Abit meh, handful no doubt but poor goal scoring record, can’t comment on his link up play etc as only seen him a handful of times against us
Fulham have had a £30m bid rejected for him. Loads of interest in Palace’s squad this summer. Wouldn’t be surprised to see Mateta targeted.
My initial thought was yeah, Davis would be alright. I think that's just desperation kicking in though. He isn't a quality older player available for good value or a younger one with lots of upside to develop into an asset.
If 'ambition' is another word for knowing that you need to sell to reinvest then yes, they are showing ambition.
I'm a broken record at this point but if we acted like they have in the market since Kieran Scott was appointed as DoF there then we would have strikers like they do. Sell to buy.
I also noticed that he won a defensive header against one of the big Preston lads just before half time. I can’t remember him doing that last season.
I don't disagree with you at all in principle but last year no one offered in excess of £15m for Clarke and the deal was poorly structured from our perspective from what I understand. The club didn't feel that was near enough his value to entertain and I'd be inclined to agree. Whilst clubs have shown interest in other of our players, I'm not aware of any concrete offers that are anything other than derisory (the exception, particularly with the benefit of hindsight, would perhaps be Southampton's offer for Roberts). Meanwhile the money Middlesborough got for Akpom, I would say was very satisfactory from their perspective and the money for Spence was complete dreamland stuff. Coventry got a decent deal for Hamer and an amazing deal, considering he had a year left on his contract, for Gyokeres. So what do you propose we do differently? Reassess and lower the valuations we put on players (I don't think many of the other clubs you use as an example of good practice do that)? Actively tout players around to attract interest? As I say, I agree with your general point but don't see that it's broadly in the club's control or should be used as a stick to beat them with.
It's more the stuff like statements coming out saying Jobe is staying this summer which I believe was in June, why put a blanket statement out to Romano like that? To answer the question, yes I think we should be touting players, the first sale is always tough and often not what you want but you have to get the ball rolling. Nobody in our squad, in my opinion, is worth turning down £17m coming into the club. As a counter question, how on earth do we improve shopping in the market we currently are?
I agree. Our fans act as if these other championship clubs have sold duds for mega money somehow and broke lucky when in reality they’ve sold better players than we’re clinging onto. Akpom scored about 30 goals and Rogers has gone straight into Villas first team. Both walk into our team. Gyokores and Hamer, both easily better than anyone we have in our squad. We have to be prepared to get rid of our biggest assets to improve the squad and that’s something quite a lot of people simply can’t comprehend out of stubbornness or daftness. Sooner or later one of these players that the fans are starting to become attached to needs to go the journey for the benefit of the club.
Further point, I don't think Boro sold Akpom or Rogers for good amounts, Rogers in particular. And i'm not using it as a stick to beat the club with, if anything i'm defending them while people look at clubs spending money and ask why we aren't so i'm trying to explain why we aren't spending.
