See? There’s so much just not happening around the clubs playing side it’s just weird. Guehi didn’t sound like he was on the verge of a big move. How can you claim to have CL aspirations and have stood still year on year. It MUST be Howe and his “I trust these players” mantra.
Newcastle along with the fanbase have convinced themselves they only missed out on top 4 because of injuries. The reality is they have some below par players all over the pitch. The old we finished 4th once card gets used also, but the other clubs have improved since then... that is GONE.
Only one man can be responsible for that, mate, and that’s the manager. He may prove us all wrong. But from what I gather (no @Judge Death , I didn’t see enough of the matches!!) Howe is doing what he always does and reverting to what he knows, which is the super high intensity of the season before last. Nothing clever, nothing different, just back to what worked before because it obviously must work again. And to do that, he wants the exact same players he had. Did exactly the same at Bournemouth. One signing here and there but believed the same mob who got promoted but then ran into trouble would get out of it playing the same way.
Nobody is, but if we get an injury to Schar, or Pope, or Bruno, or Gordon, or Isak, we are probably ****ed.
I said at the time Newcastle play a certain way and train intensly. It wasn't all luck. This season they have one game a week and that will help, but there's too much belief in Howes ability to perform miracles with certain players and no awareness whatsoever of what the other clubs have done with their sides over the last two years. Newcastle are going into the season fielding at least 3 or 4 players that aren't good enough for a top 6 club. I would have doubts any club in the Premier league would want them. Maybe Ipswich. That issue will cost them key matches early on and throughout the season imo.
The question was irrelevant mate.... what you're doing asking it has merely proved what I said in the first place to be true. For clarity it sounds very much like you're convinced injuries cost Newcastle 4th. The other clubs were better than Newcastle over the course of the season that's why I think Newcastle didn't land 4th. Squad management, depth and everything added up counts.
Much of the fan base on x seems delusional, bordering on backwards. I barely use the platform but wanted to see opinions and it seems the fanbase is split in two; 1. the majority, who believe Eddie is a God, think Miggy and Murphy are wonderful because they smile a lot and who call out anyone questioning the bizarre summer window as a non supporter. They seem to be of the opinion that, because we had Ashley, we should be thanking our lucky stars every minute of the day now that we don’t and any criticism emphasises just how much of a non supporter someone is. 2. Minority, who think this window has indeed been a disaster and cannot figure out why it’s got so bad. But none of these people are real supporters, so it’s irrelevant what they think.
They're stuck in the season Newcastle finished 4th I think. The penny will drop over the next few months and then they'll take it out on the people that tried telling them. That's how it works.. I've seen it unfold time and time again.
