Good Morning. It's Wednesday 14th August, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road

Norwich now need to tread carefully with Leeds

Marseilles have withdrawn their interest in signing Norwich City winger Jonathan Rowe, paving the way for Leeds to secure the deal.

Norwich's hierarchy turned down Marseille's £10m offer, insisting that any bid must begin at £15m. Sources close to Marseille indicated that Norwich's asking price was deemed unreasonable, prompting them to explore other options.

Having alienated Marseille, Norwich must now tread carefully. Rowe has made it clear he wants to leave. A disharmonious dressing-room is the last thing Johannes Hoff Thorup needs after his side were taken to the cleaners by Oxford Utd at the weekend!

    Ogbus attracting Leeds interest

Freiburg II defender Bruno Ogbus is reportedly on the radar for a move to Elland Road, as indicated by various Leeds journalists.

The 18yo showcases versatility, excelling at both left-back and central defence and is lightning quick! He is currently part of Freiburg II squad, who play in the third tier of German football. Ogbus is yet to start a senior game, but none-the-less is highly thought of by Freiburg.

Considering his age and relatively limited experience, it is likely that he would join Leeds United's U21 squad initially, rather than directly competing for the left-back position. The club is notably seeking talent at wing-back, with Liverpool's Owen Beck emerging as a potential target to provide strong competition for Firpo.

    Klaesson's lovin it

Kristoffer Klaesson could have his contract with Rakow Czestochowa terminated, a month after joining the Polish outfit.

The 23yo returned from pre-season overweight, and out of shape, and to add insult to gluttony, was pictured by fans at McDonald's, stuffing his face with a Big Mac! These snaps got back to his Manager, and he now finds himself in hot water!

He joined Rakow (the 2022/23 Ekstraklasa Champions) for £1.5m, and is seen as a replacement for Vladan Kovacevic, who joined Sporting Lisbon this Summer. Back in April 2024, the goalkeeper crashed his BMW in Norway and was rushed to the hospital. We understand that no Big Macs were harmed in the incident!

It would seem that all the fire power Leeds have in the recruitment department has concentrated all their efforts in operation dead wood. Yes Bogle and Rodon, plus a reserve keeper and a loan player have come in, but after weeks of the window being open……….. only a couple of weeks left, but the league has already started. Farke says we dont have big money but that hasn’t stopped some pundits talking about spending £15m on Jonny Rowe. I dont see us spending anything like that on a winger.

All the talk about us signing the kid Clarke from Liverpool turned out to be wrong as he went elsewhere and for only £4m, was he too expensive or didn’t Farke want a young midfeilder? It wont be long before the window shuts and we will then see just what our recruitment team have been doing

Morning all. Norwich aren’t stuck for money and can afford to hold out. They got 9m from Celtic yesterday for Adam Idah. I agree with Doc there’s not a chance in hell of us splashing 15m on a player. In fact I’ll bet we don’t spend 15m from now till end of window total. On a positive note the sun is shining here

PL clubs will announce their 1st team squads in the next couple of days.

I'm expecting loan market moves tbh.

The natives will certainly become restless if the hierarchy do not spend some of the Summerville money....and rightly so.

I think we will only bring Rowe in if Gnonto leaves in this transfer window otherwise he will play left wing for Summerville

£15 million for a player in the last year of his contract isn’t good value for money so I can see why we wouldn’t want to pay that.

Problem is we're finding excuses to not buy anyone. They wont improve the squad, they're not the right fit, poor value or as Farke says, little money. Our fans remind me of a lad that spends his life visiting Mercedes showrooms drooling and never gets beyond driving a micra

Thing is, I don’t even know how good Rowe is but somehow he’s being talked about as if we were signing Mbappe.

    Morning all

If we have a player with 18 months left, we seem to accept we’re going to get peanuts. When we try for a player in his last 12 months it’s okay to pay more.

Last 12 months, not willing to play, do we need a player like this, I’d not want to be paying over £10m

Don't worry, we wont be. Its Matt driving the potential signings, club not looking for anyone since Kinnear read your post saying we were better than last season and wed romp home

Rowe is only 21. Had his break out season last year. Played 34 matches last season scoring 12 goals with 2 assists.

Very very direct, gets the ball and runs at players. Very quick and can finish. Not shy to have a shot at goal either. Can play off either wing or centrally. Good ball control. The numbers aren't quite Summerville level but he is a year younger and he played for Norwich so had a less dominant team to play in. Has the potential to step up. Probably in the top 5 wingers in the league last season by the end.

From a financial point of view. He has one year on his contract so should be able to get him for decent value. If he had a long term contract then you'd be looking at £20 million at a guess. If we can get him for £10-12 million with add ons if promoted it would be a clever move. If we fail to go up then it's entirely possible that we could sell to a PL team for decent profit if he performs well.

Wasn't on my radar due to the fee but with Summerville gone for £25 million I don't see a problem with £12 million for Rowe.

Pretty accurate assessment but £15m for a player very few of us had heard about is a bit of a joke. That sort of money is usually for a striker who guarantees goals and this is still the championship. His age means a lot of upside but will his valuation drastically increase? I look at probably the surprise team in the French Prem Marseille this coming season. Di Zerbi chose there above lots of other clubs. New yank billionaire owner and Di Zerbi has done a supermarket sweep buying up lots of top players, even Mason Greenwood. They will not overpay for anyone and have told Arsenal to fook off as they wanted too much for Eddie Nketiah, so went elsewhere. They told Norwich to fook off with turning down £10m for Rowe. So if very wealthy clubs are knocking back overpriced players why should we pay more for the same player

We overpay for property and cars all the time. Unfortunately if you want the item, you usually have to pay close to asking price. If he's too rich for us can't Matt find us another target

I have to say that at this point I am somewhat underwhelmed by our approach to getting players in. Happy to eat my words if something extraordinary happens before the window shuts but as the season has started I have to say this looks like poor planning.

Smodicz has done **** all in his career until last season and he is now 28. He's had one top season in his career.

Would you go and pay £15 million for him?

Piroe has averaged 20 goals a season at Championship level and we bought him. He got 14 goals last season despite not always playing as a 9. Apparently he is a dud too.

Leeds fans are hard to please.
