    Morning...

Londinium - in the heat - only consolation is the multitude of unfettered mammaries that will be bouncing about <laugh>

Mother in law works as manager in a local nursing home. They have residents who don’t have family/visit. So invite children to come in and play games etc. my kids go and live it, brilliant for the old dears too

Yeah that's really good. My local place have the kids from school come over to practice their reading. The old dears love it and it's good for the generations to interact.

I tried to do the help the aged. I find it fascinating to talk to old people and learn about their past lives and what it was like. My grandad has some great stories some of which i have recorded. Think the best thing was when I used to take him to bowls with all the other old timers and they started talking about the time when the japs invaded hk and the **** that was going on.

Anyway, i had to do some sort of criminal background check so couldnt be ****ed in the end to volunteer. Too many hoops to jump through

Those DBS checks are pretty straight forward to do

In the UK anyway. Not sure if you tried to do it in HK ?

Unfortunately this is why folk volunteering for scouts, guides, social clubs etc is drying up, folk can't be arsed with the forms

Pain in the arse that. I used to do loads of them when I was in the NHS (not for me, but for staff and volunteers) and the process was pretty straight forward. Can only imagine it's become too convoluted for people to bother.

Shame as there's loads of good work to be done by volunteers.

I imagine its not a bad idea in practice as its checking there isnt anyone dodgy but im already a bit apprehensive about giving up my time whilst im working full time (im sure i will love it when i start) but **** am i going through so much admin to give up my time.

I just want to find an old lonely person and help make their life a little bearable but i guess that could be rife for people swindling them.

Guess i will serve the old folk of not606 instead

I had one come back once for somebody who wanted to volunteer to support people with mental health problems

They had convictions for assault, aggravated robbery and animal cruelty

I still met with them for an interview, because you know, new leaf and all that. But upon meeting them, hell no.

The problem a while back but probably not so much now, was folk would look for something to do once they retired, unfortunately most of the stuff had to be done online, which freaked the fook out of them. My misses used to give her time to Rainbows and Brownies, within 12 months she lost all but one of her volunteers, even though she offered to do the online stuff with them, one lady had been volunteering for over 25 yrs. I k ow a bloke that was running a scout group and a lot of their trips, to cut costs, parents would do a car share thing, you know 1 parent taking 4 kids, they then had to be checked, most said fook it, a lit did it under duress as it was.

We had a girl by us, I knew her dad, she used to go to a home to visit her gran, she was brilliant with the old folk and they loved her, so much so, she'd go in and volunteer a few days, even after her gran passed away, unfortunately she had a few issues with boyfriends and assaulted one of them, she was no longer allowed to help.out, even though there was never an issue with her at the home.
A few protests from the elderly and their kids but to no avail, shame really, these things can't be done on merit.
