They should obviously be concentrating on their own game, but it's still a fact that the keeper has a massive effect on the confidence of the defenders in front of him. It happened last season too, we looked better in defence when Mannone was in goal and it's not just with us, last season Arsenal's world class defenders went to pieces when Almunia was playing behind them.

It's a horrible position goalkeeper. My lad won player of the year two years running at Ferriby whilst in goal . Hand on heart I haven't seen a better keeper in this area for his age.

He won't play in goal now, refuses point blank. He tries his best outfield and enjoys it ten times more but if I'm honest he's pretty average.

The reason he jacked it in in goal was because all the grief he was getting from his own players and to some extent some of the parents.

One of his defenders would make a real cock up which would lead to a goal and because he was the keeper every ****er blamed him and not the defender.

In the end he got fed up and said enough's enough.
In a way I'm glad because I was close to losing my rag a few times with a couple of the parents who made flippant remarks whenever a goal went in.

That's just the way it is for keepers I suppose.

Sounds a bit like me. I was a pretty promising keeper when I was little (but probably didn't realise it at the time) City had sent scouts to watch me at one point, and I did quite enjoy it most of the time but for some reason, like your lad, I decided I'd rather play outfield, where I do a job but I do wonder where I'd be if I'd taken goalkeeping more seriously when I was little.

I had a similar experience. When I was younger our local team for my age (I used to play in the year above team until I was nagged and begged for months to drop down) was letting in around 16 goals a game average. One day something happened to the keeper and he couldn't play for 3 weeks or so and I stepped in as I'd done something to one of my feet or ankles, and the most goals I ever let in was 3 and we actually won our first ever game. On the last game I was in goal (the time I let in 3) the 2 idiotic senseless stupid donkey identical twins of center halves kept exposing me to like 4 players at a time. But the time that pissed me off the most was 3 of them were on me I saved 2 shots, the rebound fell to one of their players and the stupid ****ing ****** slid in from behind and booted it into our own net while I was still on the floor, and he, the whole team and some of the parents went on to give me the blame for it because I was on the floor after saving the previous shot.

****ed off from their **** team because of that but sadly there were no real spaces available in the decent team I'd left previously which was a bit ****.

25,404 and 10,000 Lesta fans locked OUT. 4-0 HULL CITY and Nigel Pearson sent to the stands. AND WHY NOT ?

You must be joking. Chester or McShane. Chester was ****e against Derby & Burnley. FFS!

Surely it's a collective problem, don't just single out players. Most the team went missing in the last 10 minutes against Burnley.

I was saying it the whole way through the Derby game and the Burnley game, he just didn't look himself. I'd take Chester over McShane any day of the week was just saying if he is suspended (I'm not sure how many yellows he's on) it may not be such a bad thing as it might pick his performances back up again. Ignoring the goals Burnley put past us he wasn't up to his usual high standards throughout either game anyway, seemed to be lacking a bit of energy, concentration and awareness, though ****e was probably a harsh and innacurate way of putting it. He just wasn't 100% and I'll leave it at that.

Anyone want to change their mind? Mines too optimistic, was hoping a win at Southampton might drag a few extra in! 4 defeats in 5 think it could be less than 20,000
