Yeah couldn't be arsed with the drive. Took 6 hours each way last time and I got caught speeding on the way home.
Back in work today, summer holiday over. Booked next year when going past the Isle of Wight, will be a trip through France then back from Bilbao thing. Although give me Spain any day. Would go back again in a beat. Next stop, La Thuile in winter.
Basque area south of Bilbao is beautiful. Very green. Very rural too. San Sebastian is worth a couple of days + of anyone's time. We couldn't actually find anywhere to stay in Cantabria on the way to Santander, every thing was full. I think you can only book for a week plus, anything less you have to turn up and cross your fingers. We stayed in a car park on Santander marina pre ship home! Santander itself is big, very big, but a beautiful place. Couple of ****e hole areas (like everywhere), but it's lovely, great food, bars, beaches, buildings. Beautiful women too, off the scale. Never been further west than there, but the Cantabria/Basque coast towards France is great. Not what you'd think typical Spain, but probably actually is.
I've stayed just outside Santander and really liked it, we went from there to the French side of the Pyrenees, always intended to go west next time, thanks for the tips
It's supposed to be spectacular, we've just never got round to it. Almost regretting the France atlantic coast trip again next year, but know from previous it'll be great. Our two youngest got a bit bored with the med last week, they prefer splitting the trip into shorter portions. (my eldest currently in Portugal for a week on the piss before his A results on Thursday!) Definitely back through Spain 2026 though. And after that we'll lose another son from our summer trip.
Yeah, this could be our lads last jaunty with us on these kind of trips, he loved the Alps but he's finding The Camargue a bit boring. Off to Fontainbleau next Sunday, so he'll be happy again, doing his bouldering.
Booking somewhere for September Was thinking greece but its on fire now apparently Maybe one of the canary islands but they hate peeps from the uk now apparently Could do turkey again tbh that was great the last time Never been to Portugal so might have a look there Any suggestions? Budgets about £1500 all inclusive
Algarve used to be cheap and cheerful back in the day (my day... 80s ) ... but best times by far were island hopping in Greece ... just get a flight out to one of the bigger ones - then jump on the ferry's - peeps waiting at each port trying to get you in their apartments - way more bang for your buck and much better apartments than through the holiday companies ...
Rhodes is nice if you're thinking of Greece. Beautiful old town and some lovely countryside down south of the island. Lindos also well worth a visit. Can't think of anything worse than an all inclusive holiday though tbh.
AIDS? Driving to Newcastle? Driving to Newcastle with AIDS with Fosse? I’d go half board to Marrakech. Some nice big resorts that do all-inclusive and a short minibus/taxi into town to see the **** you want to see at night and the option to eat at the hotel if you can’t be arsed.
I just don't like the idea of spending lots of time in a hotel or resort. Feels a waste of money to me. I did a few all inclusive holidays as a kid and can't remember any of it cos we didn't do **** all. Each to their own I guess though.
Did a great one in Dubai but I tend to agree. Nothing makes you prouder to be British than seeing a bloke needing help out a shallow pool because he’s been at the swim-up bar for nine hours.
The all inclusive depends on whats around the hotel mainly not a certainty, ive never done one myself whats so bad about them? Its just free food and drinks innit?
If it’s a cheap all-inclusive it’s probably **** food and gets repetitive. Good value if you plan on getting slaughtered regularly. Bit of research and you’ll be alright. £1500 in September should still go pretty far.
Theres a Hilton i can do but i cant remember where it is just now. Might be in Tunisia or tenerife cant remember And The 1500 is just for flights and hotel anyway cos ill have spends beyond that. Wasn't planning on staying in a hotel for 10 days cos we like to explore if we can.
Or even just fly straight to the island you want, most have their own airport. What's the point pissing around on a ferry? Santorini is lovely. Very. Corfu also. Went to Lesbos with Mrs Chief ages back so we're talking 20 years probs. Lovely, no other **** goes there. Just chill out there.
Did ... Corfu Skiathos Skopolos (where some of Mama Mia was filmed) Paros Rhodes Kos Mykonos Crete Zante All got their own charm and good points - but nicest place I've been to in Greece is on the mainland - Parga - in the Epirus region - almost directly opposite Corfu ...
Did you do the island hopping thing as a kid? A couple my mates did, lived in tents and made money whitewashing houses. Wish I'd done it myself tbh.
