I can't imagine anyone will complain if they sigh two international players for the two positions they needed for the 11.

Given the choice I'd pick Chalobah and Madueke. I do rate Guehi but I also rate those two and agree the figures on them are likely to be nicer.

The Chalobah situation sums up Chelsea at the moment for me. He came in towards the end of last season for them and was credited by many of the fans as one of the reasons they ended the season so strongly. However, he's homegrown and can be sold for pure profit - like Gallagher - so they're itching to get him out the door and buy 5 more new players to try and replace him. The players Chelsea are casting off are every bit as good as the players they are buying and I'd be all over the situation.

I'd rather absolutely nobody bought any of their cast offs ! They have a million players in their squad and they're gonna be fooked if they cant shift some of them on in the next 2-3 years. Nobody wanted to sell to moneybags Newcastle when we got took over so lets all return the favour !

Jacob Murphy's fine pre-season makes him a shoe-in for a Newcastle starting role - for this weekend at least

Some good news and be like a new signing!

Murphy is 29 as well, we can’t leave too many replacements too long.

We simply have to move on if the fee gets beyond what is reasonable. You work out what you think the value of the player is, you then have to add a bit for the fact he's still got years on his contract. You add more because the selling team don't need to sell and have also already sold a player for big money in this window. Finally you have to add more for the "English tax". I can understand paying £10m more than his probable market value but once you start talking about £60m or more then you'd better be sure he's one of the top few in the world.

I've said a few times now that I like him and hope we sign him. I can't escape the feeling that he's a £30-40m player we're threatening to spend a heck of a lot more on though.

One of the alternatives is Maguire apparently

Whilst I know you're pushing for negative respnses I've said before that I'd be fine with Maguire. In a settled system and with legs around him and in front of him he'd be fine for us. He couldn't play in a back four with Botman though as they'd get done for pace constantly unless Tino and Hall were sitting in and I doubt that's how Howe wants to play.

Maguire gets abuse because people thought he was better than he is and now the reaction is people think he is worse than he is. It happens a lot.

I know you think that and that's why you chose his name. He's not who I'd pick for a variety of reasons (and not who we'll get) but I disagree about him being ****e.

Not a chance we’d go for Maguire.

    He's ****e, but he's our ****e.

ps. I actually kind of like Lascelles and last year he properly did a job for us.
