The annual event has been staged since 1998, founded by IMP President Fredrik Johnsson and Michèle Mouton, the world’s most successful female rally driver ever. In December it will be held in the Esprit Arena. The drivers/teams taking part are as follows: All stars Filipe Albuquerque DTM David Coulthard DTM France Romain Grosjean GP2 Series Sébastien Ogier WRC Germany 1 Michael Schumacher F1 Sebastian Vettel F1 Germany 2 Timo Glock F1 Timo Scheider DTM Martin Tomczyk DTM Great Britain Jenson Button F1 Andy Priaulx ILMC Nordic Mattias Ekström DTM Juho Hänninen SWRC/IRC Tom Kristensen ILMC Slavic Jan Kopecký IRC Vitaly Petrov F1 United States Brian DeeganTraxxas TORC Series Travis Pastrana K&N Pro Series East On Saturday the Nation/Team Cup will be held, Sunday will see some of the elite drivers race in the Legend Cup.. and all the drivers in the Race Of Champions. I am particularly looking forward to watching Vettel and Schumacher work together on Saturday and go at it against each other on Sunday!!! It will be fantastic to find out who is the champion of champions in 2011. For more in depth info : http://www.raceofchampions.com/index.aspx please log in to view this image
All the talk of Lewis against "everybody else" in equal cars to see who really is the better "racer" and he doesn't get involved in this which does fit the bill to an extent and shut a few people up. Top Gear helped shut up a fair few critics about seb with a pointless lap and beating Rubens time and every other F1 driver ever involved. How about promoting motorsport in general rather than Vodafone or Santander?
He would be suitable in the British team taking part... but it is his decision. Schumacher beat plenty of people when he was getting older, Button and Coulthard were smashed to bits in recent years. Vettel only beat him by the tiniest of margins in the FINAL.
Shame Button span in the decider against Vettel in the Britain v Germany knockout, the fool. At least he beat Schumacher though, and Vettel in the group match.
Seb and Michael, truly a super team. Anyone want proof Schumi can still hack it against the top 5 drivers in the word... please look out for today's result in the individual competitions..
From the drivers' perspective, the R.O.C. is just a bit of fun. There are loads of F1 drivers who are just so grateful for the break after the end of a long season and the opportunity to spend some quality time with their families and friends, that they do not want to be drawn away by a side-show. Bearing in mind Hamilton's probable mind-set after personal difficulties and his worst season ever at any level in his life, it is not difficult to fathom why he just wants to escape for a little while. The R.O.C. is not considered important by its participants; it being more a case of entertaining those who take it rather more seriously.
How does this event work? I literally know nothing about it, I hear about it often enough - especially in the bigging up of Kovalainen
I hadn't realised just how desperate people on this forum are not to give Schumacher any credit whatsoever. While the race may not usually be that serious an affair, the idea that Vettel will want there be any question as to who is the best current German driver is a ridiculous one. Especially in front of his own fans, and doubly so given his relatively poor finish at this year's German Grand Prix.
Actually Ive seen a fair few comments round and about praising Schumacher for how well he has done in the ROC
ROC is something which carries little, if any weight, to any self-respecting Formula One driver. Hardly any F1 fans are that bothered (or even aware of it) and this antipathy is reflective of the drivers attitudes. Winning the ROC hardly equates to winning the Monaco GP (or any GP) does it. In football terms it's probably similar in standing to winning the UEFA Super Cup: a glorified friendly, no more no less.
