Maybe Tim should be telling them then. Rather than making McLoughlin the fulcrum of the entire team acting like he’s prime Beckenbaur.
Except giles is a **** winger And wont play ahead of millar So giles either replaces jacob Or we sell
Because trying to make a pass 30 yards away is probably a 60/40 chance of getting there. A longer punt for an aerial challenge is probably 50/50 at best depending on the heights of the players involved. As I've explained earlier possession based football starting at the back is now the preferred method of most coaches as it ensures a greater control over the ball. This is countered by a press and depending on the effectiveness of the press you may need to go backwards to open it up and play through it whilst maintaining possession and in turn maintaining control of the game. You won't even see teams in Ferribys league going long now. Its literally just red/black or odds/even style punting.
Me thinking he’s a National League player is closer to the truth than the ‘dickwad’ (early 2000s American high school bully called and wants his insult back btw) who suggested he was a ‘revelation’ last season.
Is Jacob someway off being a top quality Championship FB? – yes. Looking at what we paid for Millar, etc - £4M for Giles seems way over market value. I would be content if we accepted a £4m offer from Middlesbrough – providing we have a good replacement (which I suspect we will). Hence come September I would not expect either player to be getting much game time.
We did, but we still gave the ball away cheaply on a number of occasions and a better team will take full advantage and give us that 3/4-0 tonking if we continue to do that
They’re only going to get better at it though, they won’t get worse. We lost the ball in the middle third predominantly and defended the transitions very well. Of course we’d concede sometimes but considering the quality level we are at, we did very very well.
so why do we kick the ball a few yards, get put under pressure and eventually kick the ball into touch or wildly upfield? we did plenty of 30 yard or more passes today which were controlled by one of our players if you are marked move so the ball can be put to where you are moving to
On what I saw today and I appreciate it’s early and Tim hasn’t got a decent squad yet but Walter ball isn’t much more exciting than Rosieball. Jacob is gash, Giles is gash on the LW, he hasn’t got the ability to go past anyone other than on the overlap. He needs to be either lb or in a Boro shirt. still early doors though
he can play at left back or left wing most teams going for promotion to the Premier League have to spend money
There were some mistakes from McLoughlin but at least he tried to make something happen, much of the time there was not outlet though.
notwithstanding some poor play on occasions by our back four, I thought they were hung out to dry a bit by our midfield - both Seri and Morton would drop deep to provide an outlet if the back line was being pressed - not sure I saw that from Slater, Simmons, Giles. Mehlem, maybe Mehlem and Slater are supposed to be attacking but certainly Simmons and Giles didn't really do what they were supposed to so invariably it kept being passed around at the back because there was no outlet or it was hoofed into nowhere in particular - something Walter needs to sort out
So they do it in training but can't do it in a game ? Walter looked like he was going ballistic at times on the sideline
