Ha ha, poor Macca. I think he is just trying to impress to be fair to him but it's a bloody tough spot to play at this level with Slater in front of you! Coyle just looked way off first half, hoping it was a blip as you cannot fault his effort
Sorry I have to disagree with that... and dont ask me to name matches but there have definitely been occasions where at the back stick he hasn't even taken off..
He’s an all action defender, similar to Coyle just without the composure which leads to moments like today which unfortunately are too common.
In a defensive side Jacob would probably do well as a LCB. He lacks the pace to be a full back at this level but as you say, defensively he's pretty good. That block which deflected onto the bar today was very good defending and he looked a lot better with Millar in front of him.
I get to every home game but still had a great day, had a couple afterwards in Ebenezer's withTrogg. The views expressed in my posts are not necessarily mine.
Sorry lads and lasses, last season Jacob was excellent, alas this new system puts more emphasis on progress rather then pass it back and forth along the back four, thereby requiring accuracy of passing, which he sadly lacks. His defending of crosses is abysmal, second half today he was just nowhere near his man allowing the lad to get a free cross in, albeit the cross was shyte, his panicked attempt at the clearance after Mclaughlin had ballsed it up typified him right now. I'm not saying the lad will eventually come good, but he is 23 now, new system or not he should be able to pass to his players, and as for defending the back stick don't make me laugh, numerous times he gets caught out, not for me I'm afraid. What makes it more obvious is having Mclaughlin next to him who isnt far behind in quality rather then Greaves who covered his mistakes admirably.
Jacob stopped a certain goal by blocking the Bristol shot that hit the crossbar. Or being in the Bristol Box to hit a volley that was a definite goal, but for incredible goalkeeping by the Bristol Stopper. I do hate this City fan mindset of constantly crucifying players. Jacob did more good things than bad. He was also a revelation last season.
He just knows where to be, and he gets there. We have such a long list of strikers that have had many qualities but never seem to have that knack. Jelavic probably being the last one and before that I can’t even think. Even Fryatt and Campbell more made their own space than finding gaps and scoring tap ins.
It’s worse when he’s a local, an academy graduate, a fan himself and has family history at the club. I really have no words.
The game is all about opinions, last season yes Jacob did well, today and in pre season he hasn't in my opinion.
I'm happy with a point overall today. Went to the game not knowing what to expect. Thought we did okay and a draw was a fair result. Bristol didn't create much and their chances came from us p1ssing about at the back and passing them the ball. Seen some criticism of Oscar - fair enough - but I'll take a striker who does sod all for 89 minutes and scores in the 90th any day.
City have the best chances, concede to Bristol first shot on target, cash out my bet on a Bristol win for £16.17 instead of £19 if they win, we equalise. Disappointed not to win but still a decent day for me. Just need my bed now after nights last night
Maybe, it's just me but I don't see Coyle as top drawer. He loses the ball a lot too (like the other defenders) and today he seemed tucked in too close to Jones on a few occasions when they made a move down their left/our right. There were a few times the crowd groaned at him passing backwards/sideways when we were trying to move forward.
Not looking to add to the all pile on on Jacob, but one thing that stood out for me was him clattering them 3 times in the first half with the ball a yard+ away
