Welcome, Dom. Here's hoping he hits the ground running and kicks on from last season. We'll definitely need him to. Wonder what number he'll take? 9, 10 and 18 are all currently occupied, though you'd hope/ expect the latter won't be for much longer. Could also possibly be 11 now Gil's out on loan but we rarely strip a loan player of their number.
I wasn't trying to be patronising. The lack of intent you describe is as you see it. I don't see it that way. Everything Spurs have done over recent years is to aim high and try to win things IMO. Hence Spurs have now become a regular top 6 club which they never were before. I am pointing out that different generations view things in different ways. The direct opposite of patronising in fact trying to appreciate your viewpoint without a agreeing to it.
Osimhen or Martinez? But I don't think any of the top 25 strikers in the world who don't already play for the really big clubs really stand out
Just one proviso on the Solanke transfer... Why, if the lad is such a perfect fit for Angeball and has allegedly been on his radar for months, did it take to the start of August for an approach to be made??
Like @Dier Hard said, this summer has felt very laboured in regards to signing senior players. Personally I don’t think the club decided until recently that they were all in on Solanke. Hopefully not the last signing of the summer, still think 2-3 more are needed
In a market where strikers aren’t easy to come by and we being Spurs….this is the best we can do tbh. Who do people think we can sign better than this? At least I can get behind him…that Toney seems like a ****, glad we didn’t bother. wish the boy all the best
Use the "numbers" and you will quickly be able to produce a list by yourself of who such players would be.
Absolutely, need 2 more at least - RW and a LB who is perhaps versatile to cover VDV. Still also need another GK if Vicario is out for sometime we will be screwed.
RW - already have Brennan Johnson and Kulu. Is that really a priority position? LB- definitely need someone in. I’d like a creative central midfielder in too but doesn’t seem to be a priority.
Solanke better be bloody good now, just agreed to a 6 month avi bet with Pinks over who scores more league goals between Solanke and Havertz. I was hoping to sneak in goals in all comps and he could stat pad against a few farmers with a bit of luck but it wasn't to be . Debut day hattrick would be a nice start though.
Those you used to tell you Richarlison is worth 30m odd (the same measures/stats you used for him should tell you who in PL / overseas land is worth much more than 60m odd) .
Looking at the wisdom of the Solanke transfer from the outside, I think the jury’s out at present. He’s been a regular scorer on the PL in the past couple of years (including a destruction of Utd at OT). That’s a huge plus as scoring in the PL is not easy. But he’s failed at a top club already and is quite a limited player. Does he have the speed of thought and movement to play in and around players like Son, Maddison and Johnson? On the other hand, he’s a proper centre forward, who adds some physical presence in the box, can hold up the ball and can snap up those half chances others might not. I wouldn’t put him in the top 10 forwards in the PL at present, but that’s probably not the point.
I don't think strikers of that calibre would be tempted to join us tbh and we'd be naive to assume otherwise. The absolute top strikers are looking for CL football and trophies. We currently provide neither. EDIT: Just seen you've cited Martinez and Osimhen as examples. Not a chance either of those players does more than flatter us by at least picking up the phone in the first place, to then tell us that they're not interested. We're dreaming if we think strikers of that calibre are hoping to play for Spurs.
Lack of LB cover is a huge concern. I'm not sure what the club's thinking here is. I assume it's either playing Porro/Spence on the wrong flank, using Davies or pushing Micky out there with Radu dropping in at CB. We saw last season that the latter was probably the best option, as Micky is just a superbly talented player. But it is far from ideal.
