I was thinking how difficult it must be for the lad trying to time his runs in this system. We play so many passes sideways and backwards in the final third whereas other teams will just play the ball in at the first given opportunity and the 9 just has to run onto it.

Jobe getting some pelters on twitter. I stand by what I said on a different thread yesterday, some of the **** aimed at him is outrageous. He's been really good, moved the ball quickly, won fouls, dealt with the ball in tight areas, created a chance. What the **** is he meant to do?

Solid half I would say. As a team look well organised and the triangles are clear. Individually some rust in possession. Alese, Neil, Hume, Browne all getting caught of playing it to them under little pressure. Cirkin is a proper footballer and makes us so much better. Roberts looking great, now he has support again and options around him. Bellingham looking reall good I think. Lacking a wall pass in that number 9 spot. Getting bullied a bit there.

All in all though decent first game. No passengers, some snappy tackles going, particularly ONien, Hume and Neil. Cover when they break is decent. Can see the coaching ground work.

I'm trying not to get onto Roberts back, but he needs to up his defensive game.

Overall, we're doing ok against a team that are well drilled, are we making them look bad?

I know it's going to take a few games to get used to the system.

We should be 2 or 3 up, but that was us last season. At least we're creating chances.

Only 45 minutes away from a good start,
passing the ball forward would be a start

Enjoyed that bit nervous at times but for the first game shape is excellent really compact Forcing them wide Need to sort Willock he’s the only threat Other end fullback winger and midfielder working well together on both sides. Roberts back to form Mayenda tries hard but needs a couple of years. A strong froward moves the team up a level. Happpy with that Let’s see how we cope if they up the pace second half

Come off it man. Pass forward to Mayenda who is getting bullied? Would rather he did what he is doing looking to find the wide players which he is doing well. He did pass to Mayenda a couple of times and one of them created a chance.

Probably our best player that half for me. Strong on the ball, great movement and should have been picked out by Browne when he took the wrong option to shoot. Off the ball his positioning is quality. Carries it, wins fouls, brave in tight spaces. He is trying to find Mayenda as well to feet. Mystery if people arent happy with him today.

I'm not saying we're brilliant but can't see why we're as poor as some are saying.

We've had 6 goal attempts with a third of the possession, away from home, and have created better chances ...

... it wouldn't have been a shock to have gone in two nil up.

We have a new manager, new system, Browne making his debut in a key position and Mayenda starting.

    Ha'way the Lads!!!

Just my opinion but I think he slows us down too much and often plays us into trouble.

Some of his tackles are brutal but he manages to make them look tame ... quite a skill.

Really enjoyed that first half. We look very dangerous and the signs of great teamwork and partnerships are there. Browne has added bite and nous. I can see why his pass % isn't fantastic as he's always looking for the pass that puts the opposition in trouble.
