We’ll find out shortly, but probably at centre back and I suspect he’ll get his first start on Wednesday.
I agree it's weird but I don't get the take that we're just developing him to be good for Man City and get nothing out of it if he has an excellent season. What we get is a season of excellent football. It'd be like loaning in a top quality young keeper to sit on the bench, it's an odd spot to loan in. Would think attacking slots are better for loans as you're more likely to rotate/throw attackers on late.
He won't. Alfie is a very good CB at this level, but he gets criticism for weird reasons. If we get Hughes, the defence will be focused on developing him (we can make a lot of money on him) and playing 2 young CBs who've never played at this level together in an open system is naive at best. We saw it when we came back into the Championship and we had Greaves, Macca, Alfie and Bernard (all inexperienced) and it was ropey plus this full forum was calling out for experience. I just think he'll play a bit part role. 15 starts and 15 sub appearances would be a good 1st season at this level for Burns. There are loads of similarities between Alfie and Burns. Both highly rated youngsters, both had their 1st loans at a Steve Evans side and he played both in midfield despite being CBs. As with all young CBs, Alfie took time to develop so I think it's extremely optimistic to believe that Burns will replace him when he's played so little senior football at CB. I think he'll get a lot of his minutes in midfield. There are question marks over both Zambrano and Simons for different reasons.
I don't think Burns is here to be a sub Man City obviously looked at how we developed our last young loans and there is no reason to suspect we won't develope him either i think he is here to play and just because he is young with no champ experience does not mean he won't know his positioning or what to do.
Yeah but Mayulu is the only one that stands out. An unknown Japanese midfielder and Sinclair Armstrong aren’t the kind of signings that would excite me.
To be fair 48 hours ago we'd only made two signings and had a much weaker squad than them. I'd say we still do. They're going to do a bit of business before the window closes, with Twine looking likely.
His best spell in football came under Manning at MK Dons. I'd back Manning to get the best out of him.
Not all the time we didn't. And as a "free-kick specialist", his goal ratio from free-kicks was appalling. He must have had at least 20 free-kicks just outside the box during his time here with only one going in.
