I’d take a play off position now. In fact I’d bite your hand off for it Sadly I am predicting we fall short again
Better crowds, better revenue, better owners and better manager - only a fool would think they would finish below you this season.
With this squad I think it would be great to finish 7th. But I believed, yet again, that we were going to give promotion a real go. More bullshit I am afraid.
Nine outs and seven ins this Summer. Source - Rich Cawley Outs May Dobson CBT Payne Jaiyesemi Thomas Isted Hector McGrandles Ins Ahadme Docherty Berry Godden Mannion Edwards Mitchell If nothing else, confirms that we are going to be in trouble if we have a couple of injuries. We don’t have the numbers, or the depth. The Jamaica kid can’t have gone thru yet.
Of our seven signings, three were free agents and four we paid undisclosed fees for. Edwards was believed to cost £150,000. The owners recouped £750,000 for May, £300,000 for CBT, and undisclosed fees for McGrandles and Isted. I can’t see how anyone can claim that there had been a lot of new investment this Summer.
I &was thinking the same. Force Alfie’s hand by winding him up by subbing him off. The message was clear to me and I’m sure to him also. It’s done now so NJ has to get it right over the 46 games to justify his position.
It was also noticeable that Alfie May was routinely rubbished by certain sections of the forum fanbase, presumably fed by ?? I am (obviously) ignoring BB in this. His opinions on football are about as useful as Baldrick’s advice on trench warfare at the Somme. Alfie May certainly attracted a lot of unwarranted forum flak based on his outstanding efforts in a short 12 months at the club.
I really don’t understand the OTT criticism of Alfie May. People saying he wasn’t a good all round footballer. He scored over 20 goals last season. Derek Hales wasn’t a great all round footballer but he knew where the back of the net was.
Alfie May scored 23 goals in 43 appearances for us. He played in what was factually our worst team in 100 years. Fact. I look forward to Ahadme & Godden scoring 25 goals between them this season. My hunch is that the former will get 10-15, and the latter won’t play much.
I think Ahadme will get 10 goals max, plus he has injury issues. I think Godden will get 8. he also has injury issues. What you can say about Alfie May is that he was always fit, worked hard and weighed in with the goals. Plus he was played out of position a number of times. We have five strikers in Godden, Ahadme, Aneke, Leaburn and Kanu. Four of them have fitness issues.
As has been said before, Nathan Jones’ career trajectory could well hinge on his decision to allow Alfie May to leave. If we don’t score goals, he will be gone. If Ahadme & Godden do, the decision will be vindicated.
This could very well be Nathan Jones' last chance saloon after Stoke and Southampton. He has one promotion on his CV and that was getting Luton out of League 2 at the 2nd attempt. If he fails at Charlton, I can't see him managing above the 3rd tier ever again.
