I think we definitely get one. If we get two it’s a prem loan at the end of the window

That's my gut feel and whilst we don't know what's going on behind the scenes with Mendy I really hope they have other options if it doesn't come off. If I have to hear Speakman talk about "not getting the deal over the line" or "value for money" again I may wander down to Cleadon and **** through his car sunroof

I’m alright with one of its the right one.

The Spurs lad looks a good one but it comes back to he’s same age as Mayenda of thereabouts so why do that.

Luke O’Nien has been named Sunderland AFC’s new Club captain, with Dan Neil selected as team captain.

As the defender enters his seventh season on Wearside, O’Nien takes up the mantle vacated by Corry Evans following his departure from the Stadium of Light.

22-year-old Neil – an Academy of Light graduate – has already amassed 149 appearances in red and white, and he will lead the team on the field throughout the upcoming campaign.

The duo will front a new six-player leadership team selected by Régis Le Bris, which also includes Alan Brown, Dan Ballard, Jobe, and Trai Hume.

O’Nien said: “Sunderland is my home, so it’s a massive privilege to be named Club captain. I’ve been here a long time and I’m proud of what we have achieved, but my ambition is to help take the Club further. Like the rest of the team, I’m excited about the new season and I can’t wait to get started.”

Neil added: “This is another proud moment in my Sunderland career. I’m ready for this opportunity and the responsibility it involves, and I’m grateful for the continued support I know I’ll receive from my team-mates and the staff. Walking out at the Stadium of Light wearing the armband is a moment I’m looking forward to and one I know I’ll never forget.”

Régis Le Bris concluded: “As a team, we need many leaders on and off the field. Some of them will be vocal and others will impact our environment in different ways, but each player has an important role to play. There are many responsibilities from adjusting our strategy on the field to guiding our culture in the dressing room, and we have selected a group that will lead by example and set high standards.”

Does that mean O'Nien will wear the armband if he's playing or will it be Neil no matter what?

Neil will wear it when playing. I'd imagine O'Nien would wear it if Neil isn't though

Jobe in the 'leadership team' is interesting. Obviously young but you can often see him making himself heard and he's always one of the first to come over to the away fans after a game

Yeah its a weird one. He's very vocal though. And his position is vital for the press. So perhaps RLB sees him as one of the key "leaders" of the pressing game

Just means he will start every game now...

    Only jesting.

I honestly wouldn't have him in my starting 11!

Me neither but lets hope he proves us wrong. He has the tools to suddenly blossom and become actually undroppable.

Must be a big voice behind the scenes. It’ll probably be good for him being involved in it.

Over the moon for Dan Neil though. New contract soon hopefully.

Just the way he is getting build up. Look at his brother and how he handles himself. It's all leadership high corporate stuff. Be good for him.

It's very rare (I think?!?) to have a club captain that is a regular starter not be the team captain.

    Let’s see with Jobe.

Actually for a first full season of you sit back and look at it overall, for a child, that was a really stellar season.

At a new club, big expectations, the pressure of playing for us with the strange ‘willing us to fail’ element in a small portion of the fan base. The kid done good.

Jude’s second full season was dominating games for Dortmund. Jobe takes half of the step forward in the Championship and we have a beast.

Personally, out of all the players we have with such raw and immense potential, I’ll happily go on record now and say Jobe goes furthest in his career.

Let’s get 5-10 games deep and see what we think the best 11 is.
