Dodged one there.... ridiculous money for possibly 20 weeks till end 2024..... no idea of his wages but guessing £20k a week? £1.4m thrown at a temporary player..... shows the stupidity of parachute payments rewarding failure....
In some ways, I'm satisfied by the fact that our owners won't risk everything on one or two players who are much hyped but still unproven although starting the season one or two accidents away from a serious injury crisis is not great.
The resources of other teams are making it extremely difficult. Blown out the water by West Brom and Sheff U for the Italian left-back and this kid. It’s **** but it’s right to not compete for silly money with teams gambling the farm on promotion. £1m+ for a loan in the second division is obscene.
We've signed a 25 year old striker who scored 21 goals last year for a team in a decent European league. Not sure we should be expecting another striker. We went into last season with Dykes, Armstrong and Kelman as our strikers. This season it's Dykes, Frey and Celar. I'm confident we've upgraded our options. The big need now is a Willock replacement, especially if Chair isn't yet fit to start the season. I think Andersen is a tidy player, but seems to struggle over 90 minutes, so we can't rely on him and Chair alone. Defense and CM now seem pretty solid, especially the new GK.
We've upgraded from a very low bar. it's pathetic the way we've have started the last 5 seasons without 2 or 3 'proper' strikers. Frey/Dykes will not score 15 between them. Are we expecting Celar to score 15 on his own?
Let’s wait & see until season starts Saturday & give them a few games to gel with new players & hopefully more coming in
Got my tickets through for the Sheffield utd game. Really looking forwards to this season. Will be interesting to see the starting line up Saturday but I'm guessing Smyth, Anderson and maybe Lloyd behind Celar. Could be totally wrong mind.
