I really like him, seems to be quite the tactical thinker, the players have took to his style fairly quick too. The SOL will love the high press
I'm surprised too mate. I was expecting them to start with Burstow after such a fantastic loan spell last season.
Never mind three weeks. If there’s no striker in by the middle of next week we’ve failed as a recruitment team if he comes in the last week of the window we’re not seeing him properly til end of September
I loved that. I know he’ll get the ‘yes man’ tag thrown at him for those sort of comments but I’d far rather a united front was presented instead of using mates in the media to stir the pot, try to force hands or for self preservation. There can be frustration and disagreement behind the scenes, that’s healthy but it should stay in the camp for me.
Yes I loved him backing Mayenda publicly. What I would say however is its "easy" to do that at the start of the season. Lets see if he's still publicly backing him after two 0-0s
It’s about finding the right one and we still have 3 weeks to find one, which is all true but we’ve heard that line before
He just said he's relaxed about there not being a new striker here now. Obviously he'd prefer it, but there's not, so he's very happy with working with who he's got (then namechecked Mayenda)
@JamesCopley_ Le Bris on strikers: Says as a head coach we have two ideas. To work with the team. His main concern is Cardiff City but he wants to improve the team. Says we have to find the right player for Sunderland and not just anyone. "We still have three weeks." #SAFC
I dont think anything at all should be read into the striker situation based on what RLB said. He was never going to say "one is close". He seems way too clever and careful with his words to be that open.
RLB has got me up for it now, I really like that we are using a high-pressing system. Suits us so much
hopefully he has them drilled and fit enough to press quick and high as a team….one person drops off that type of system and opposition teams can cut through you. it’ll be great to see if he can get it working effectively
Am I right in thinking he said he only started learning English last year? His vocabulary is already broader than mine!! Considering our fanbase like to dissect, misinterpret and over analyse every single word uttered in press conferences it’s all the more impressive that he’s given them nothing at all to cling to there.
With the exception of a few moments (due likely to lapses in concentration) he generally seemed to have them just about there in that regard against Marseille. I do still find it a little odd though that the club identified him as the coach to implement this sort of style when it’s not really something he deployed at Lorient much at all. I don’t doubt there’s a reason for it, it’s just not obvious to me as an outside observer.
Thanks for that. RLB impressed with last seasons performance with Southampton at home. Wants us to repeat that with more consistency . Nice to hear. Window open and hopefully a few more additions now the ball is rolling today. Haway !!
RLB comes across great. Really like his ideas and can definitely get behind intense, pressing football. We really need to find a way to get him a forward, it's not fair on him or Mayenda to not get one in.
