Spurs signed Richarlison for £50mill (possibly £60mill) and Brennan Johnson for £47.5mill Alvarez looks a bargain in comparison
Only because the PL cannot rinse overseas leagues on mediocre talent (as is sadly the converse case ) .
Very likely the case, few days until he's 17 and considering the hype around him, the club will probably do a "Happy Birthday, Mikey!" post followed by pictures of a pro contract he'd signed recently.
Kid’s got huge potential. The club and Ange know it and as long as he stays on the right track he will have a huge career. He won’t need to go to Germany/Portugal/Holland to get minutes imo.
Yeah what’s so impressive is that he doesn’t look physically out of place at 16 during preseason either, which definitely was the case more so with the likes of Marcus Edwards who had to go abroad. He’s got all the potential to be absolutely terrific.
Wait until our Europa League opponents are announced first, as he might be getting minutes in at least one of Germany, Portugal or Holland this season...
South American journo, Eduardo Burgos, is claiming us and Southampton are negotiating a loan for Veliz, straight loan no option as he's considered important for the future of Spurs. I'd be on board with that if they could give him solid game time, the Sevilla move was an odd one, not just because of how terrible it went but it would've done little for his development in English football which is what he needs. If it's not Southampton then dropping down a division would be better than a foreign loan right now.
It’ll be a good acid test for him. Like you say Veliz needs to be playing in the English leagues so he can keep learning the language and how football is played here. Going in at PL level and at a team who have been promoted and may struggle will be a potentially tough environment but he has the makings of a player who can do it at this level. Just needs to play to show it.
I think the thing that frustrates me most is that West Ham are smashing it with new signings and really going for it. I know they have a free stadium and all that but we could surely match them with the same ambition?
Don't worry: this time next year we'll be signing their summer signings at a significant discount when PSR kicks them up the backside

Summerville could be one to watch. He tore the Championship to shreds last season but it remains to be seen if he can handle the step up to the PL. Kilman is a solid player but doesn't really improve them imo. Fullkrug is ironically the most Moyes signing they could make, having just got rid of Moyes. He'll be a handful but as per Kilman, doesn't improve them massively. We are still stuck in a bit of a no-mans land imo whereby we are good enough that it is really hard to improve our first team, but we are not yet good enough to compete for the players who would most likely deliver that improvement.
And now Rodriguez as well. I know I’m being impatient, and I totally get our situation, but I hope we would have at least have one signing by now to get excited about and that could really improve our first team. I get that we have been burnt in the past but we can’t play it safe forever or we will never have any chance to progress.
I don't see how he's going to get regular football for them, to be honest. They lost Che Adams, but kept their top scorer Adam Armstrong and added Ben Brereton Diaz. They've also got Ross Stewart, who admittedly has injury issues, plus some other forward options. I guess we'll have to see how their squad works out, but he's far from an automatic starter there, in my opinion.
Armstrong's like a Dwight Gayle though, terrible at the top, great in the second tier. Managed 4 league goals across two Prem seasons for them. Stewart I wouldn't worry about, if the Veliz links are true he'll almost definitely be above him. Brereton is the one though, looked ok with Sheffield and so if he's been signed to lead the line then it's down to what they feel they can offer Veliz. If it's 20-30 minutes off the bench each game I think that's fine, anything less and look for another club to deal with.
Welcome to post-Paratici world, mate. We had a cracking couple of years under the Don getting targets sorted often nice and quickly. Now it's back to umming and ahing on who to buy and even if we should buy. Lange is probably playing Football Manager every day in his office, not realising his actual job is more or less Football Manager in the real world.
