I agree with what you say Vince. I would rather talk my way out of anything than fight my way out. I was more speaking from a personal safety perspective in a very small scale incident. It would be counterproductive to go in ‘all guns blazing’, pardon the euphemism in the situations seen recently. Where I think the police are stymied though is that other than the big metropolises such as London and Birmingham, they are unable to call upon a large enough contingent of trained officers in a short space of time to effectively quell the disturbances quickly. This will embolden those involved. I believe that Starmer has said that he wants a ‘standing army’ of such officers to be available at short notice. Let’s see if that comes to pass.
My old force allowed officers to carry Taser, being a non-lethal force option, so I think that they are allowed to carry that based on which Chief Constable is in charge of whichever force. I would agree though that a nationwide ACPO policy is probably in force which will likely make the discharge of Taser quite an onerous decision to make.

I feel heartily sorry for the police EJK, at this stage they are in full view of the media and therefore the general public and appear to be doing nothing, no one knows what is going on behind the scenes but there is definitely evidence gathering and planning for the next stage.

People need to realise that what they are seeing is police containing the incident to small manageable areas without escalation. The time for direct intervention comes later, we had a saying that we didn't come into the game to come second.

Tasers are ok to manage violence once the perp is behind secure lines but would leave the officer exposed on the front line of a riot situation. Those officers on the front line just need to do everything they can to protect themselves and colleagues. My thoughts are with them completely

This is a great post mate. The police here certainly need more power imo. It’s a disgrace that as soon as little force is used to detain a criminal there’s people all over social media calling for the officer to be sacked. Maybe don’t break the ****ing law and you won’t have a problem. You have female officers standing there doing absolutely nothing whilst a male officer struggles to apprehend a bigger bloke because all he has is his hands and some CS spray. People run amok these days because there’s no consequences.

It doesn't bear thinking about Smug. My missus has experienced something similar numerous times during major incidents but without the live reports on camera

There’s videos on you tube now really tearing the s hit out of Starmer and the Labour Party, hard to disagree with some of it.
It’s a pity the bloke who is spouting it seems like a right plank.

Read this through and it's all pretty logical in my opinion.

I thought Starmer should send in the troops, use tear gas, etc. On reflection that was just my anger at seeing Sunderland shamed but it would've been seen as a victory by the mobs tbf.

What will actually happen, as always does, is that these things follow a pattern. The hardcore are basically inadequate cowards who 'hide in plain sight' among the mass of onlookers and kids catching the excitement and egging each other on. When those, who aren't really part of the mob, start seeing arrests and jail time they'll vanish. The criminals, at the centre of this, will be exposed and outnumbered, or at least matched in numbers by the police ...

... that's the point at which their arses will drop and their numbers will drop until they stop.

Then the police, as you say, will have time to catch their breath, gather evidence, scan the CCTV and bodycams, etc, before taking great pleasure in the dawn raids, pleas of innocence and subsequent blubbering in court.

As an aside, a mate of a mate is retired and not too well off living in Wath upon Dearne, or whatever it's called,

He's had these people shiitting over his front garden wall, coming onto his property looking for missiles and hiding round the back when the police have advanced. He, surprise surfukinprise, was threatened with violence when he asked them to keep off his property. 'Not even Yorkshire bloody accents, I never have this bother with the Pakis'.

Made me laugh even though it shouldn't.

Big police presence in Durham today and shops closing now and not reopening tomorrow. Police contacted a friend who runs an event at a pub in Durham and said cancel it tomorrow night.

Doing the local economy the world of hoof these idiots!

The sentences will be severe and rightly so, what irks me is they are saying the jails are full and only yesterday they were on about releasing prisoners early because of this. We shouldnt be releasing any dangerous prisoners to accommodate these idiots. I would make every single one of them work in the community they destroyed after stripping them of any assets they have to pay for the damage, Make them clean, repair, replace everything they destroyed and more, some of them will never have worked a day in their life but would rather lie about in jail than work in the community. Work is a bigger punishment for some of these louts.

I have my doubts about the sentences being severe to be honest. They should of been fast tracked straight through the same day so everyone else knows what will happen, not wait until the 2nd of September.

    This!

The government is letting hundreds of prisoners out early to ease the congestion in our prisons, so where are the rioters going to be locked up?

I think that the vast majority will get a slapped wrist conviction. It's what we do in this country unfortunately, which is why we have so much crime, because we have very little deterrent, due to soft judges and soft sentences.

They'll take their places imo, it was already planned to release people.

It won't be terrorists and rapists, it'll be people who've failed to pay fines and had to serve time ...

... to be honest it's more expensive to keep them in.
