Thats a massive swerve Shat In, i asked what special deals you had? and although its stated that 18,000 tickets were sold there were not 18,000 in the ground, who are these invisable men? and why do they buy tickets and not use them?. Also remember most of your support have only appeared over the last 20 years, you are a similar type of team to MK Dons in my book.
There were 18k in the ground, remember it holds 27,111. Not like the little grounds you play in. When was the last time you got that number in the dump? The only special deal was season ticket holders could bring a friend for a tener. So if Millwall ran the same offer you might get a ten thousand, assuming some of you have friends?
lol. are you mental? only appeared in the last 20 years??? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charlton_Athletic_F.C. (independent web site) states that we were used to getting upto 70000 a game up to the 70s and were only one of eleven to do so. funnily enough, the same sorta period on yours http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Millwall_F.C. says that you could only get 40000+ on special occasions. millwall have never had a strong fan base. since they knocked down the tower blocks in new cross your attendances have halved. its just one of them things.... inferiority complex i think they call it. can through the anarak stuff now... but that took 2 mins to google and i'd much rather have 18000 supporting my team than an 9000 who probably dont really care too much about the game they're watching
Charlton have also had historically big crowds, if you can be bothered to look. Before and after the 1980s, during the early 90s the attendance was limited by the size of the ground.
What sort of hardcore? The ones that volunteer to clean the ground, or the ones that try and take half of it home with them?
Look at you lot - I ****ing hate Palace more than West Ham. You're sounding like a cross between Palace and Leeds - and that ain't good. Keep bigging up your crowd but remember one thing.......YOU'RE ONLY CHARLTON.
Sorry Shat IN, I know my stuff due to my old man being a Charlton supporter, from the age of 5 to 8 i went to the Valium regularly, the crowds were between 6-8,000, he got pissed off with going so my uncle took me to Millwall instead(my older brother had already started going a while before me) and i never looked back, our crowds were bigger than Charltons at that time and there was also a thing called an atmosphere that i had never experienced in my Charlton days. 1975 was the only time i knew that the Valium was ever full and that was when The Who and the Sensational Alex Harvey Band played a gig there. The only other times a decent crowd turned up was when you played Chelsea,Tottenham and Us and the majority of the crowd was made up of visiting supporters. When things finally went tits up for Charlton you managed to double the size of your crowd at the last game at the Valley to just over 8,000, Palace gave you a home and in your promotion season you only pulled in crowds of 5-6,000.When we joined you in the top flight in 1988 we beat you at Selhurst 3-0 infront of just over 15,000 of which nearly 10,000 were 'wall. To sum up apart from a hardcore of around 5,000 the rest of Charlton's fans are only there for the good times. My old man told me of crowds of 55,000 plus at the Valley during the fifties which is impressive, my uncle told me of crowds of 30,000 at the Den in the early sixtys which maybe ain't as good as what Charlton pulled but we were 4th Division back then.
right.... so when two sentences ago you were saying "Also remember most of your support have only appeared over the last 20 years, you are a similar type of team to MK Dons in my book. " (trying to insinuate charlton have no support) can you then say you remember being at the valley in a crowd of 55000? it sorta doesnt make sense. like your trying to make charlton look bad by making random sh1t up.... at least your old man has taste eh
