Skateboarding can get in the bin but I quite like the BMX "tricks" version but the mens is much much better than the womens. Mind you the best trick on a bike was Pidcocks overtake in the MTB
In general, I prefer objective competition to subjective... be it dressage, ice skating (winter, I know), gymnastics, or any other event where judges have to give an a score-
Gutted about the BMX She absolutely dominated every race up to the final. Then just didn't get the start and couldn't get into the race.
Miat admit I only saw both finals so might just be coincidence but does seem of you get in front no one is overtaking you in that sport? Does the race need to be longer or something to allow more chsnce to overtake?
She does the 400m hurdles aswell, I presume she is in both individual events. To watch her closing down the US woman is insane ......that last 200m
Yeah, just watched it. The Dutch lad on the third leg ran himself.out and did a very poor hand over. He got them close on his 299m mark then cost them at least a second or so on the handover. She looked controlled and just started going on 200 meters In fairness the first 2 put them in the position amd the first woman did quite well and only tied up on the last few meters. Team.gb ran very well though.
Yeah, the gap between Bol and the yank in that first 200m was huge.........you just don't close that in an Olympic final.....crazy stuff. Got me jumping around anyway
The yanks ran all out in the heat to set the wr. I saw that. They were a bit down on it then yesterday. I wonder did they blow out but I don't know what other events thr yanks were in earlier. I see the 400m hurdles is on in heats right now.
I say this every Olympics, but Swimming is overly stacked for medals. France won 7 medals (3rd in Swimming) with only 3 swimmers, 5 of which were with 1 swimmer (4 individual 1 team) Too many styles and distances that are similar enough for 1 swimmer to dominate.
They love it though so it is what it is. You get 1 medal for working really hard and having to compete through multiple rounds in hockey or football or thst and then something like the gymnastics has multiple things to do if you can but then a specialist has one shot. If someone is like Usain bollt he could do 4 events in the olympics and if he ever bothered I'm sure he could have added long jump. Biles seems to have team and individual medals falling around her feet. Does it really matter or is it about the medal table for you?
You've brought up a load of other sports, but I was on about swimming having very samey events. Michael Phelps has a **** ton of medals and everyone lauds him as the 'Greatest Olympian', cause he has a **** ton of medals. But didn't he just do the same thing over a slightly different lengths with slightly alterations in how he moves his arms and legs. Bolt is a great example though. There is no way Bolt would have been competitive at 400m or even 100m hurdles. Realistically Bolt only had the chance to win 3 medals per games (Carl Lewis is an oddity not an example for Long Jump) The point about the amount of medals (and France) was that realistically you only need one genuine class swimmer (that isn't a specialist like Peaty) to win loads of medals. The only event that really demands a specialist swimmer is the 50m free. Which seems unfair on the other sports at the Olympics. Track cycling also had to drop events to allow things like BMX tricks and flicks and make it more appealing to 'youth'.
Thsts true, no way bolt could do 400 and no way michael johnson could do 100m who's been on bbc for years. I do think 100m freestyle and 400m freestyle is a huge different (probably) but 50m and 100m is very little difference. A lot of sports seek to get one hit and you are done and it's a massive massive commitment. You could cut a few distances but I don't think it'd be fair to cut out a stroke even if I think 2 of them are ridiculous as one is for kids and the other is just odd way to go about things.
On the 100m. Jamaicans look strong for a one two. Lyles alot of talk while these two Jamaicans quietly looking strong.
