It's a fantastic gesture that should be fully supported.

The irony is that it's what certain so called right wing people have been advocating for several years. Some even started a national/international organisation with representation from all sides to facilitate it with some degree of success. It was external pressures that caused it to fail, which raises a few questions.

    Yes,but anyway putting that aside.

The concept is right, the blokes handing out an open invitation to come and talk, have a drink, something to eat...The alternative is hatred, mistrust, brick throwing, riot police(from all sides).

There's a Sikh Temple in Glasgow,Gurdwara Singh Saba, that feeds people on a weekend. It's essentially designed at feeding the less fortunate but everyone is welcome. The women cook millions of authentic Indian food, rice, pakoras, naan bread etc.

I sometimes nip by if I'm walking up the West End and though I've never took food,I've donated some cash if I'm flush.A good mate of mine who's an Indian restaurant owner in Glasgow put me on to it many years ago and it refreshes me mentally to see so much good faith through different religions embracing each other.

If I lived anywhere near Liverpool I'd attend that mosque and see what the vibe was.

    Edit...Stunning building by the way.

Yes, that's what we were told to do. And, as I posted earlier, that's what I started doing and was happy enough doing so (even though ideally I'd prefer we had our own similar thread on here just for such stuff). BUT then I come back on here and see the same topics and more continuing, with even mods contributing to the topics! Make your mind up.

Running community kitchens is a central part of the Sikh faith called Langar. Most Gurdwaras run one which theoretically is open to anyone but obviously is used by the homeless more than most.

Food is free and always vegetarian - a rule which allows Muslims, Hindus and Jews to participate without transgressing their dietary restrictions.

Everything is paid for by the Sikh community, many of which have lived peaceably in the UK for generations.

In fact I can only remember one time when British Sikhs challenged any British law. When it became compulsory to wear a crash helmet on a motorbike. Didn't sit well with wearing a turban.

It's only a no politics and religion rule, you can express your anger at a horrendous crime, everyone is angry about children being slaughtered, no neurodivergent excuses he went armed to murder, he will and should be a massive target in an adult prison. Evil scum.

If you want to post something, just don't make it political, if you bang on about the Far Right, the Far Left, Starmer, Farage etc, it will be deleted.

You seem to have far far more difficulty with this than anyone else (other than Castro and he just does it to be irritating).

Low blow considering he (Cityzen) can't challenge that because you removed him from the thread...

I used to think a politics discussion thread on here would be interesting. Now I think it would be a waste of time.

Surely the point of a political discussion is to mutually further each other. However, as proven in past examples, most people on here are politically intransigent.

Generally, we all have our own faults and quirks which contribute to a politics thread not working.

For example, I love political discussion but I am evidence based and find it largely worthless discussing with someone who isn’t.

The mods do a good job. I could never be arsed with it – they can. Fairplay to them.

    ... And religion?
Presumably it's ok if it's somwthing deemed positive even though it leaves some wanting to point an alternative view or angle out, but can't!
I'm now fine with the no politics, no religion rule, but suggest it's applied equally, fairly and fully, not when it suits or fits. Ta

Don't see how as Giulio Napolitani had a hissy fit and told us he wasn't moderating anymore, reminds me of the saying 'old ****e casts long shadows'.:emoticon-0103-cool:
