was in rhodes a month ago. 30 plus every day. for 10 days. owner of the villa said this is the first year hes been able to swim in the (unheated) pool and not be cold. to us it was like a bath.
private villa totally secluded pool = plenty of bag over the head opportunities.

i'm not offering advice to your daughter btw.

i did once have a rather pleasant holiday in macc about a decade back. then g/f knew someone who had a flat to let there for holidays. made a good base for exploring from and i know some of the area around there.

    Wherabouts are you?
I’ve been thinking of going to Newquay for nostalgic reasons
Went a lot when I was a kid and I’d like to go back and have a look round but heard from a few people it’s a bit chavvy now

Was there a couple of summers ago taking my children to see where I occasionally went on childhood holidays. It's all relative. It's not as 'refined' as Bude, for example, it's a younger crowd, lot of northerners, touristy and busy - some refer to that as chavvy.

I liked it - beaches are incredible and stunning (6 or 7 of them in Newquay). Certainly more bars and drinking going on than in the 1970s to 1980s - but didn't meet any topless hen parties unfortunately. If you want a quieter time stay somewhere outside the town, like perranporth, and drive in for the day.

But if honest, sennan cove and Mousehole were the highlights of the trip, but a lot further drive south west.

Ye spent many happy hours on those beaches as a kid
You could pick mussels off the rocks back then and we used to cook them on the beach
    Cockles winkles too
Seeing surfers on fistral beach was amazing

I’m living in St Ives, been here a while. It’s very busy in summer and best months are June and September. Newquay is a very young vibe and a bit hen and stag based but apparently it’s a good night out. If you wanted quieter then St Agnes is a nice place with good beaches nearby. I always recommend the Lizard Penninsula but beware summer as it’s packed. Kynance Cove is about one of the nicest places you could visit but all the Lizard is good.

Sennen is a great beach and you can usually get parked too. Mousehole or Mousall as they call it here is a lovely place and if you could get houses with parking spots everyone would want to be there. Even West Penzance is on the up with a great new sea wall and pedestrian walk to Newlyn which sells great sea food and Jelberts ice cream which should not be missed. We also now have a great range of local craft beers which you could try a different one or two on every night.

Sardegna/Sardinia, whatever it is called, is pretty good so far, not much tourists, mostly local Italians moving from Rome for weekend and leaving during weekdays. Very pleased with my choice this year.
