Dai, Britton has been unanimously hailed as having played fantastically well up until now. He got MOTM for a reason on the weekend... not many people are going to stand up to a man of Emile Heskey's stature, and for one of Britton's height and physicality to do so was all the more impressive.
So you'd replace Dyer if someone better came along, but not Monk? Well, that's interesting. If we replace everyone you have in mind then we will have a squad fit for the Champions League
but not premiership standard by a long way and that goes to show how weak we are in going forward. monk has been outstanding and is the fastest on record this season in the premiership, we are too small with no strength and depth.....yes they try very hard but come on they are getting nowhere......there is not many of our players that have what it takes and a few will lose there starting place come january and rightly so if we want to stay in the premiership..
the neat passing style of play is well drilled into them in training, and as far as sinclair not making runs in behind defenders for a ball through for a more direct attack in the final 3rd is maybe due to rogers dictating exactly how he wants it played forward and the lack of dyers ability with crossing doesnt help graham either. rogers can only work with what hes got but maybe a bit of tweeking to his system may be in order to get a bit of unpredictability into our game ?
do you know that most of the teams that have got promoted this last decade have all performed equally as well and most even better than us only to over achieve in reality and fail when it really matters.....
Sorry if I am taking the quote out of context ... but Rogers realizes this more than anybody and as somebody who as been coaching as long as he has. He knows what he's got, what he doesn't and how far the current squad can go. He sees them every day in practice, pushes them, drills them, observes how they respond, observes how they execute what has been practised under pressure in a game. By now he should know their technical and athletic limits. He hasn't made his statement lightly. He didn't need to make his statement at all. So I think it means two things: first, he's sure of his evaluation and intent; second, he's putting it out there to try to get the current lot to find an extra gear. It's not really a question of should the club try to improve the squad - of course they should, at any time they have the opportunity - the real questions are who is going to be available, have the club identified the right people, can we sign before the damn deadline and satisfy FIFA's bull****. You can't buy what's not for sale and we seem particularly inefficient at playing the bureaucratic game. By the way, when would be the earliest that Situ's registration could be finalized and do we have Moras past January.
There was a stat somewhere showing that in the history of the Premiership, 75%ish of promoted teams with our points total at this point have stayed up, so you're not totally correct there Dai...
http://qprreport.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=print&thread=27887 Here's that link. I can't find any stats specific enough to mean anything, but money doesn't buy success and it'd be foolhardy to change things too much. By all means bring in quality, but we need cohesion and continuity to succeed.
we need strength and more depth and a striker that can make goals out of nothing,.....as long as they can do that then i dont care if they cost nothing or a few million, we will never make it with what we have got otherwise.......
I think Dai's been drinking lads! Britton not good enough indeed, hell change your beer Dai!............... please log in to view this image
too small dragon, heskey run rings around him and made him look what he actually is,...a championship player at best, the same as sinclair, danny, dyer with the latter being the best trier of all but no not really a premiership player at the end of the day... they have all put a shift in but when it will matter you will find we really are not good enough......so january is a very important time to find a bit of quality to help the lads we have got to try and keep us in the premiership.....it can be done if done right....
So Dai, we have about £10m left (if you assume we only get £40m this season and we've spent £10m on players, £20m committed to increased contracts and wages) and we have to replace the two top scorers from last year's championship and the most prolific winger I've ever seen play for the Swans. Plus Britton and maybe some others (I couldn't read all of your posts because you grammar made me feel a bit sick). I think the quality we'll get for that money won't cover it. Once Caulker is fit and we have Situ in January, this fella from N.I. and maybe one more (preferably giant-sized) for the midfield and I think we'll have plugged all of the realistic gaps we have.
That giant size midfielder will be Agustien returning I think , another defender besides Situ & maybe this young striker & were done IMO .
I agree. As long as he can stay fit, he'll be the key to maintaining a stronger presence in midfield so we can push forward.
Haven't seen you for a while mate! You're 3rd in the championship and there's still a massive ten places between us! How's the view from down there?
Scott, this is also from the link you gave above: http://qprreport.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=27413&page=1 Interesting guide to how many points we may need to avoid the drop. However, the best way is to keep on picking up points regularly and staying out of the bottom three.
You won't be in a relegation spot by Xmas - looking at the fixtures, end of January may be. Still have a sneaky feeling that you'll avoid the drop - just! There are some poor sides in the Premiership, Wigan and Blackburn to name just two. Will you be the one to join them - it's going to be close.
