CK, I've been quietly reading the last 7/8 pages of this thread and vowed to remain silent...until I saw this. And whilst I broadly agree with most of your views on Syria (I am very anti-Assad and think he needs to be fired into the ****ing sun), and am also anti-Iran (not a fan of Khomeinism, Ayatollahs or the puritanical version of Shi'ism enforced within the country - if you want to go further back, I have a deep dislike of the Safavids too), your sympathy towards Israel still remains a total mystery to me. Let me make my stance clear to you: Israel has not, is not, and will never be a force for good. Ever. I know you've lived there before. I know you've worked there before. Maybe that's why you have a deep desire to defend its corner. Maybe you're Jewish yourself and were taught Israel was your ancestral homeland growing up. Honestly, I don't know what your reasons are, and truth to be told, it doesn't really matter. The bottom line is: Israel changing leadership won't fix anything. For as long as it exists as a political entity (an illegitimate one in my eyes), there will never be justice in that region. I don't believe in peace. I believe in justice. Until the Palestinians get their land back, and it becomes free from occupation, I will always view Israel as the enemy.
And as if to prove the point I was making to Diego yesterday, the BBC has just ended its live broadcast on the strike, a total stream time of 5 hours and 40 mins. This is what our TV licence fee is paying for. No other conflict gets this much scrutiny or air time.
Ukraine/Russia? Pretty sure the Syrian was day after day. Only difference is Russians were the warmongers, assad the authoritarian dictator and the israelis the hunters of terrorists (inside schools, hospitals and red cross trucks). Just look at the latest headline, top hamas official killed in lebanon. Imagine russia taking out a top Ukrainian official in poland. We would never hear the end of it and how that crosses all the red lines attacking an enemy in a sovereign country (also see israeli attack on iranian embassys)
Unbelievable people are whining about this bloke being taken out after months of whining Israel’s attacks weren’t targeted enough. Does he just live the life in Iran forever with impunity?
Some great points Bobby ... ... and for perspective... Israel publicly comments that the killing of 12 non-Israelis in non-Israeli (under International recognition) territory 'crossed a line' in the current conflict (Hezbollah still denying any involvement) - and convened an emergency war cabinet to decide upon an 'appropriate response'... They then assassinate leaders of Hezbollah and Hamas in Lebanon and Iran ... in what must have been operations planned for months and months ... ... now if I was a cynic ...
There is no question Netanyahu is seeking the end of Hezbollah. It is entire unclear how he intends to do this.
This is unlikely to happen because unlike the supposed political leaders of the Palestinians, who largely cower in their charity-funded villas and mansions in foreign countries hundreds of miles away from the conflict, Ukrainian officials tend to stay in Ukraine, with their people.
Not trying to be funny, but given the US backed Israeli missile / rocket / aerial capability and the Israeli consistent disregard for taking out schools, hospitals and refugee camps - are you really expecting the leaders of Hamas etc to stay in a big red building in central Gaza City with a huge 'Hamas Headquarters' sign on it?
