Well if you’re talking about ‘have they made an impact’ then KS could sign Measi tomorrow and you’d still be talking about how we’ve had more misses than hits. It’s an artificial restriction that makes things more negative. What is important is if the players they’ve signed can contribute as part of a squad for next season. All nine mentioned can - and that’s just from the bad windows plus the current one. 9 contributors from three and a bit windows that are terrible according to online safc fans. God help the championship if speakman ever has a good window, eh?
The club has been transformed ... ... some of the young lads haven't had the chance to make an impact yet. Perhaps they will, perhaps they won't, but we're not taking massive financial risks on them.
Interesting view point. We need a couple of really strong first team players for me. I mean, presently, we are still using the same forwards as we signed last summer. We all know how that played out...
Were they brought in to go straight into the starting eleven, I don't know who you're talking about tbh.
That's it though isn't it. Too many fillers and maybes. I think we need to adjust our parameters a bit.
All clubs have maybes, Clarke and Ballard were maybes when they arrived ... ... so are Browne and Poveda.
They aren’t the same players, though. It looks like we’ve missed on Rusyn. Hemir will need a massive turnaround on a loan to not go the same way. Mayenda looks different though - and ready to contribute. We defo need that striker to settle things though.
That's a decent percentage but not great ... ... one who isn't a 9 but could do a job as a 10, a young lad who needs a loan and another who's easily good enough for a place on our bench. We definitely need an older experience hard running striker, preferably a signing and a loan. We'll see.
You have to remember the utter dross speakman inherited. Apart from 09, they've had to replace every first team player that was playing under the previous regime. He's had to gamble on some cheap foreign signings just to bulk up the numbers so I'm not that surprised some havent been great. If every signing was a success we'd have too many players for first team. Mundle looks like he will be an excellent addition.
Exactly mate. Look at the massive turnover of failures at the top clubs ... ... the likes of Chelsea look absolutely chaotic compared to us. I've no doubt Rusyn could be a good player but everything's been against him here, now he looks lost. Our last two signings are on the back of a decent squad and are looking to improve us. But we had, as you say, to bring in numbers who may or may not make the grade. This isn't the olden days of bringing in endless journeymen who'll be 'decent'.
With Rusyn I get the feeling he'd be a player.. with a partner up front. Thing is, not many play with 2 up.
Not including this window since being promoted to championship we’ve signed 22 players (not including loans). 4 are regular starters and 12 have done nout. The other 6 on the bench mostly. Even if you count the players who make the bench, some of whom have barely played, we’ve signed more ****e than players who’ve made an impact so far. But the 4 who are regular starters have been quality buys that have paid off big style.
Speakman has made 8 striker signings and it’s basically a 50:50. Four perms, four loans. Three successes, two contributors, three failures. Could be a little movement in those bottom two groups. Given the money we spend that’s not too bad in truth. Also worth bearing in mind the specifics and nuances of the task. We’re signing for a team role that amounts to less than 5000 mins across a league season. Likelihood/intention is that one player will get 3500+ of that total. The rest will be fighting for scraps. Certainly that’s the situation that the club brought three of last summers four into. Perhaps goes some way to explaining why those three were two younguns and a utility forward. The task is slightly different this season and the club have adjusted a bit. Still need to be careful though. If we end up with say Mendy and Cannon there’ll be nothing other than emergency minutes left over imo.
Whatever happens in these pre season friendlies doesn't matter. We will be in the premier League after this season Reet, am garn ter bed. Fook off the mags, we're gunning for ya, ye coonts
In 18 (75%) of the last 24 championship seasons a team priced at 20/1 or bigger has finished in the top 3. Think we're 25s atm. No reason we can't be that team if we add a centre forward. This league is all about consistency, these lads are another year older and hopefully with the help of a couple of older heads will become more consistent. I'm quietly optimistic we'll be OK.
