Says who? Its impossible to even keep a record with the amount that we are taking in on a daily basis, with zero back ground checks on any of them!
British Red Cross, Refugees council and government figures are fairly consistent. No doubt it doesn’t capture everyone but it’s what the available figures say. Impossible to account for those we never know about but that’s not many, they won’t be eligible for housing, benefits or really any support so those numbers will be low.
I don’t believe that many immigrants don’t try to claim asylum or seek housing support so those numbers will absolutely be known.
What date was this known lol. It will fluctuate massively day by day, its impossible to keep a record with the amount that arrive on a daily basis!
There will be a rolling set of calculations and some lag but it’s probably quite accurate overall. There’s always some estimation and fluctuations in this sort of monitoring though.
How do we do that, if it's that simple, and why did the last Government fail to do it over 14 years ... ... despite regularly saying they would?
Immigrants trying to get to England said the conditions in Calais were horrific - smelly and disgusting. "You'd think the French would at least shower occasionally," said Abdellahi from Ethiopia.
In the 'Days of Empire', the British in general, mad little attempt to integrate with the locals. They were most comfortable amongst their own kind. And that's understandable, at least to me. Those coming to Britain seeking a better life will naturaly gather together with like minded souls. The comforts of their mother tongue, a common religion and culture will be a serious attraction. But their children WILL integrate much more easily, in general. And by the time their grand children arrive I suspect that, like the majority of the rest of the population, they will have forgotten most of their roots and religion. If you want an examples, of sorts, look at the descendants of those Poles who stayed in UK after WW2. After a generation or two, particularly after 'mixed race' (sorry but I can not think of any other expression) marriages the same applies to none European peoples. If we care to look back into our own histories I suspect that most of us will find imigrant influences.
The world is built on immigration. What we need to do, is do it correctly. The Americans and Aussies have a ‘how can you benefit our country’ system, both of which admittedly have their failings, but that is the way to go. Our infrastructure was built by immigrants, well ****ing invaders of we honest. America was essentially stolen by invaders and immigrants. Multi cultural societies and immigration can and should be positive things. They just need done right and managed and how we get there is a massive ‘**** knows’. For sure, a lot of the biggest issues in Britain are caused by Brit’s. That’s fact.
Just reading through some of these posts and its clear how complex it is to deal with the problem, its also clear that some people are easily swayed by social media. The distrust of the mainstream media is very noticeable, I cant watch Sky, BBC, GB or any of the other news channels if I am honest as there is no middle ground, they either report left wing views or right wing views, the BBC in particular are so far removed from public opinions its borderline propaganda. It is difficult to filter through what gets reported and trust it, the footage from Manchester airport should tell people that, it was manipulated to suit. By the time we get proper context there has been a reaction which leads to people backing down or condemning the over-reaction of the original report, a viscous circle. I cant stand Robinson but the amount of people descending on London to his marches prove there is concern amongst the public, they arent all right wing fanatics like the BBC or SKY will have you believe, a lot are ordinary working class peaceful people who have had enough of being fed rubbish by both Labour & The Tories. Nobody has a solution that both sides will agree with and finding that middle ground is going to be very difficult, we have people condemning people who fly the Union Jack or St Georges flag as knuckle draggers for gods sake, its ridiculous that you cant have the same pride in your nations flag as any other country. I work side by side with Polish, Lithuanian, Spanish & Italians, there is a common belief amongst us all that there is a problem with immigration and the Polish in particular are very vocal with it. I think the country is on the cusp of anarchy.
Whatever side you fall on, on these issues, it is going to lead the country down the path of self destruction. Normal people will become zealots, all rules will go into the bin, and everything will be deeply ideological. We could have stopped all of this by just being a bit more careful and sensible.
Spot on Nads and I agree the U.S and OZ system is not perfect, but is a step in the right direction. I can't see any plan in place in this country to even ineffectively deal with this matter. I've got no problem with immigration. I do have a problem with illegal immigration though, and we need a government who has the balls to tackle this problem, but as a country, we can't tackle this alone. This is Europes problem and as a consequence is fuelling the fires for the emergence of the far right. I'm an anti racist and was a member of the ANL for many years. The last thing I want to see is the creation of a divisive society, but their are rumblings caused by the pictures of illegal immigrants landing on our shores in their thousands, without a clear indication of what we are going to do with them. As I've said before, paying for more processing staff rather than paying for hotels is the best way forward. Keep the genuine cases and the ones who will benefit this country and transport the rest back to their country of origin. For those who have conveniently lost their passports and won't divulge where they are from, we offer them a choice of their country of origin, Somalia or Yemen. The sad fact is that genuine asylum seekers escaping tyranny are being held up by these illegals. It's not a matter that needs putting on the back burner. It needs dealing with now.
Agree BoE, but would add, without safe and legal routes for genuine asylum seekers, we will never be able to process applicants. Until we can process effectively, legal and illegal migration and asylum seekers will always be conflated
I doubt the ratio of mentally disturbed has changed much over the years. I remember quite a few lads, over the years, who I've always been wary of. The first was a fellow eight year old, Clibby Hogarth, who used to catch animals and do horrible things to them. But he was kept in check, to a degree, by the village and wasn't influenced by TV, none of us had one But, these days, disturbed people growing up can easily be sucked into radical ideology and cults. Mix in the easy access to drugs, guns and knives and it's a powder keg. Like the Hungerford killer, Michael Ryan, who killed about 15 or 16 strangers, plus his own mother, difficult people become really dangerous. No idea what the answer is ... ... modern life has become greatly over complicated and it'll just become worse. When the ex-President of the USA Incites people to attack the Government we know it's all going wrong.
Just a spot of devils advocate here: If they changed the laws and what constituted illegal immigration became legal, would your concerns go away?
