It’s this really, same with most of our business. Players we hope can do the business in the PL but hopefully worst case is they are high level Champ players who can get us promoted again.
That’s all you can really do in the first year with the financial gaps and regulations. Unless you get very lucky. I think I wanted us to sign him either instead of Armstrong or around that time. But the contract situations were different I think
I doubt it was around that time, think he was just breaking through at Forest then. Was at Blackburn where he made his name over the next couple of seasons (after we’d signed Armstrong)
He played as part of a front three with Armstrong and Sam Gallagher in Armstrong’s final season. Only scored 7. But I think maybe he started that season on fire in the August and was clearly more powerful and therefore potentially better suited to the premier league. So I either thought this around when we signed him or very shortly after in a “maybe we should have got him instead” sense
Well, if he scores at the same ratio he did for Sheffield United he'll get 16 goals for us which I'd be delighted with. It's not as simple as that but I'm very happy with this signing, especially at such a good price.
Born in Stoke, signed from Sheff Utd. Just got to sell him to Sunderland and he'll be the red-and-whitiest person ever.
I know you’re only leg pulling, but I don’t get the impression he wants out at all (unlike, say, ABK or Sulemana).
