Good servant and an absolute bargain. Not the best footballer but can’t complain one bit about his attitude or application.
I'm not his biggest fan as a footballer but there is absolutely no doubt he's worked as hard as anyone to get where he is. Great lad
One of the most underrated players I can remember, yes he's a nice lad but the fact is even if was a prick he'd still be a good footballer, as is clearly demonstrated by his stats. Quite a lot he could do when he hangs up his boots but a coaching role with us would be great. He's got all the attributes for it.
great lad, loves the club and area, does whatever he needs to do for the club. wins a fair few headers at the back and at times, reads the game well...would prefer him to cut out his 'marking' of players with a bear hug and he does tend to go AWOL at the worst times although he did seem to get his game together through last season, if RLB can do a little work on him i am sure he will be a quality defender this season.
Whilst I don't necessarily agree about the under rated bit I massively agree with the coaching bit. He's the type of lad we should be allowing to develop and grow as a coach with us
Love Luke me mind. Seems to get a fair bit of stick when we concede and folk seem to try and pin the blame on him for anything but for me he's a more than sound championship centre half. For me anyway Centre Back is definitely his best position he never seemed to have the awareness to play centre midfield but with the game in front of him at the back he looks a decent footballer. That coupled with his physicality and his never say die attitude make him a decent enough centre back for this level. Yes he may not always have the best positional awareness but he only became a centre back 2 years ago. He has been coached as a midfielder throughout his development years and his early professional years. He hasn't benefitted from the years of coaching that most centre backs have. He's probably best at the right of 3 centre backs but I've got zero qualms if he plays 46 games this season as part of a centre back pairing.
As a footballer he definitely has his limitations, but as a player he is definitely more than the sum of his parts. I still remember him celebrating THAT tackle on the halfway line late on in the play-off final. It reminded me of Psycho scoring his penalty for England in Euro 96 after having missed one in the world cup 90 semi final against Germany - who else?! He has done whatever the club have asked him to and then some. Luke epitomises the club's climb back from being a League One basket case. Off the pitch he has been a huge credit to the club too.Thank you for six years of fantastic service !
This is the key bit for me. Every time I've doubted him, he's proved me wrong. Works his bollocks off
He is also a good character with infectious energy, which is good for ingratiating new lads and the general feeling on the training ground. I think there is some legitimate inquiry into his ability and as a centre back he is not everyone's cup of tea (some like two battering rams who hoof it), but I don't think you can question his character and that is something people can overlook the value of.
Whether he's rescuing Damsels in distree on a motorway, or pulling strugling dogs out of the sea, he just can not help being a good example and role model.
Not necessarily. Teams like Brentford, Brighton, Southampton, Bournemouth brought players from the Championship and League One right through to the Premiership and some of them played lots of games in the Premiership.
