    Confirmed:

The missile was a Falaq-1, supplied to Hezbollah by Iran. They were aiming for either the Aroer or Yoav military bases, both are within a few km of Majdal Shams. They missed and hit a football pitch instead.

Possibly - but that's not really the point - the International Community has never recognised Israel's annexation of Golan and, therefore, in International Law, it is still Syrian - and an International compromise could be taken into consideration as part of an overall eventual peace deal for the region ...

Nobody has answered my question - why does a wayward Hezbollah missile that lands in Syria hitting no Israeli 'target' warrant Netanyahu rushing back to Israel for an emergency war cabinet meeting when Hezbollah have continued aiming and firing at actual Israeli targets in Israel (and elsewhere) since October?

I think you need to look up the definition of 'misfire'.

OK ... misaimed then - because everybody appears to accept that it did not hit the 'intended' target ...

.. which still leaves my question unanswered - how does that wayward missile escalate the situation with Hezbollah?

Read my posts again. Asked and answered.

The Golan is only 'Syria' on a piece of paper in a UN office somewhere.

It ceased to be controlled by Syria in 1967.

The Syria recognised by the piece of paper in a UN office somewhere ceased to exist in 1970.

The Syria that came into existence in 1970 ceased to exist in 2012.

Syria is now a failed state propped up by Iran. Stop referring to it like it's an actual country.

Majdal Shams is home to at least 5000 full Israeli citizens. Hezbollah launched a rocket at Israeli military bases (which according to you and the piece of paper, are located in 'Syria'), missed (NOT the same thing as 'misfired' - get your terms and definitions clear) and struck a town that is home to thousand of Israelis, many of whom serve in the IDF and vote for representation in the Knesset.

This is no more weird than a British PM visiting a Catholic town in Northern Ireland after a disaster or attack to show sympathy with the victims.

I read it - I don't see what relevance the Druze community in Israel has to this - the rocket exploded in Syria ... and Israeli Government officials were also harangued by locals at the site of the explosion, so the idea that the Druze are somehow universally enamoured by Israel seems a little rose tinted ...

Correct. I've addressed this in a different post.

The Druze are very split on the issue. The older generations very much see themselves as Syrian and mainly rejected the chance of Israeli Citizenship, opting instead for 'permanent resident' status.

IIRC it started shifting in appx 2006, since then the younger generation have been taking up citizenship in their droves, including the mayor of Majdal Shams, Abu Saleh, who iirc is in his early 40s.

All of the above only refers to the Golan Druze.

Druze communities in the Galil never saw themselves as Syrian and are overwhelmingly supportive of Israel. Those communities tend to supply soldiers, MKs and lawmakers etc.

Just another example of how bloody complicated the region is! You can visit one Druze village where the majority are still anti-Israel, drive 20 mins down the road to another village and they love Israel.

This is what happens when sanction hit nations produce subpar equipment and hand them out to whoever wants em.

They can't aim for **** in the first place and then fire off a defective piece of equipment.

Me neither now - seems it was a Hezbollah rocket that was off target from its intended target ... which was possibly one of 2 different locations with Israeli presence ...

... although how the Golan incident is cause for Netanyahu to cut short his visit to the US for an emergency war cabinet meeting to discuss an 'appropriate response' amid this 'escalation' remains beyond me - given that continuing Hezbollah rockets at actual Israeli targets throughout the same period were not apparently a cause for such concerns - emergency convening - or seemingly seen as an escalation...

This attack is quite clearly an escalation like. No matter what side you sit on, they killed a bunch of civvies going about their day.

If Ukraine shot at rocket at a Russian oil facility and it landed on a school, it would be an escalation.

So every missile fired is an escalation but not necessarily one that causes the Israeli leader to rush back for an emergency war cabinet meeting about 'appropriate response' ?...

Would you say Israel firing missiles at a school in Gaza was an escalation too?

... but thanks for explaining ... and, as I'm sure you will agree, great to see Netanyahu finally finding his humanitarian side where the needless deaths of innocent arab civilians are involved, ain't it? ... hopes for a peaceful settlement soon then? ...

    Yours

    Non-the-wiser...
