Blimey, who could forget the old submarine ! Our house used to back onto the foreshore, and a whole load of the kids that used to live along the road, would join in and play cricket after school - sometimes as many as 14 a side ! All gone now, thanks to the emergence of Port Solent Marina. Where the sub used to be is now a big Tesco, and car park. Happy days they were.
That old submarine..funny how as kids we just accepted a U-boat just off shore. They still used to test the air-raid sirens when I was young. Fine by me, but it must have creeped out people who actually lived through the air raids.
My Mum is 96 and yes, you're right, they did send shivers down her spine, after WWII. As a kid, I heard them being tested too. Nowadays, they occasionally test them for civil defence purposes, but it is just the all-clear signature that is heard. As you'd expect, Mum is less edgy when they sound that out, but she still doesn't like it one little bit.
I don't have (or read with) a Powtsmuff accent. Born and (very well) bred in Chi. The real Meowth has a New Joisey accent.
You can't argue with that I've voted Prawn Cocktail, but then I remembered Brannagan's Ham and Mustard flavour - yum. Didn't some-one come up with hedgehog flavour in the early 80's? Or am I just partially recalling some-thing from Not the Nine o'clock News?
