Both goals Murphy was allowed to cross with all the time in the world. Seeing much less talk about that in favour of giving him an extra bashing on top of what he’s likely giving himself

It’s not as bad as some are making out. Goals like that happen all the time people are acting like it’s some freakishly terrible piece of goalkeeping

The first goal wasn’t Pandies fault. I’m not really sure about the 2nd, what would a professional keeper be coached to do? Attackers go for the ball whether the expect someone else to get to it first or not, are keepers told to do the same or just to try and react?

Im.pretty sure he thought it was going to be a goalkick
Which is more worrying to me

Why else would he dodge out of the way of it

Wasnt even a cross with much pace

I’m basing it from the games I’ve seen him in so far. He seems to have conceded goals where I think he could have done better or there has been a delayed reaction. He gives defenders the ball who are marked and there was a ball he let go across him today that should have been tapped in and he got away with. He’s only young, so could get better. He did make a couple of good saves (one excellent one). But to me he doesn’t look ready. As I always say when I’m critiquing goalkeepers, we have been blessed in the past with some excellent ones, so they have big boots to fill!

He was also doing it against the better standard of players. Seri is a good option to have in the squad but he isn't going to last much longer. Simmons is the future.

A lot of teams will play out and give the ball to a player who is marked. How else can you open up a gap? They are supposed to control it and give it straight back!

He’ll have thought Jones or Barnes would’ve got a touch given it rolled over both their feet

Enjoyed my first live viewing of Walterball. The style fascinates me and I'm actually really looking forward to the season. My key takeaways that nobody has asked for:

    • We look a lot better with a recognised striker on the pitch (shock) and whilst Oscar frustrates me, he'll score goals in this system.
    • Build the team round Omur. Play him central and get some quality up front.
    • Jacob just isn't up to the level required, we've been murdered down his side in every friendly so far.
    • Would love to know if Tim sees Giles as a winger long term. He's showing some promising signs this pre season but looks to me like a player playing out of position. If he's not going to get a game at left back, I'd be open to the Boro move.
    • Longman is still the same player we loaned out, he tries hard but there's little end product.
    • Drameh looked good, but so did Coyle. Shame we don't have that problem on the left.
    • Simons impressed me, he brings a real energy to midfield
I actually thought we were pretty accomplished in playing out today. Worth noting that Newcastle are probably the best side at pressing in the league and I can't remember too many times where they caught us out.

I found it a totally frustrating afternoon. Yet City played reasonably well considering the weakness of the squad. Having Alan Shearer reffing it didnt help and how he never gave a penalty for the assault on Omur in the first half should be a police investigation. The away fans filled the North Stand and a section of the East and were very, very loud for 90 minutes, very impressive. It was like the old days at Boothferry Park, mid 70's, when the away fans outnumbered us. They also had plenty in the West Stand, some voicerous and full of beer, others more respectful. It didn't add to the afternoon for me. I thought we looked exactly like last season, but without Greaves and Philogene. The holes in our squad are alarming and I felt for Walters throwing his arms up in frustration as chances were sqandered for the lack of a striker, because after Oscar went off we had nothing up front. Oscar looked decent to be honest, even though he was a bit lost playing the lone striker role up front. Omur was outstanding for us and had this been a league game I'm sure there would have been at least three yellows cards shown for fouls on him.
I saw nothing today to get excited about and I left feeling as though something is missing at the club which was there last season and its not a good feeling. That and the fact they've stuck another 50p on the beer. The new look Legends Bar looked decent though.

    Second goal was soft.
Don’t think he had much chance with the first.

Overall we looked a bit better than I feared we might, and probably should have scored first half.

Mind you I was there with my 4 year old grandson for his first ever game so was also busy buying sweets and drinks and explaining why, despite there being a picture of him in the programme, that no, Noberto Solano wasn’t playing today…and clarifying that the bloke in the blue shirt was indeed the one who had yellow ‘tickets’ in his pocket.
To be fair he clearly knows as much about football as I do and I’m thinking of nicking his way of dealing with not knowing any players by just referring to everyone of them as ‘a Tiger’ (as in ‘pass it to a Tiger!’… ‘yeah, the Tiger got it off the other one’ etc)
His highlight was buying sweets and throwing a ball back onto the pitch to a player at half time…my highlight was walking down Anlaby Rd on the way there and him shouting ‘Look!!! Black and White ones…BOO!!! We don’t want them to win!’ Good lad

My brother used to take his 8 year old grandson to Brentford. Asked what bit about the outing he liked best he replied ‘pizza at half time’. What can you do?
