Good Morning. It's Friday 26th July, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road

Steinsson flies off to Cologne to tie up deal

Leeds Utd have had a €4m (£3.37m) offer for Austrian International midfielder Dejan Ljubicic turned down.

He applies his trade in the second tier of German football with Koln, whom he joined in 2021 from Austrian outfit Wien. He's netted 8 times in 83 appearances for the Cologne based club. He loves to get forward, and at 6ft 2' shares the physical attributes the Elland Road faithful will love. He can also play on the right or as a defensive midfielder!

Leeds are set to test Koln's resolve with an improved offer and have sent Technical Director Gretar Steinsson off to Cologne to get the deal over the line - such is the importance of his signature to Daniel Farke.

The 26yo only has twelve months left on his contract, so we must assume any deal mustn't be too far away! In 2021, Ljubicic was sentenced for throwing bottles at a mosque, a crime he committed in 2018. He had to pay a fine of 1,000 BAM (£430) or serve ten days in prison!

    Send Crew out on loan

With the Summer arrival of Joe Rothwell, and expected signing of Dejan Ljubicic, the likelihood of Charlie Crew getting a decent run-out next season is starting to diminish!

Crew, 18 last month, joined the Leeds U18's academy from home town club (Cardiff City) in the Summer of 2022. By the following January (2023), he had already been promoted to the U21's. Last March (2024) after continuing to impress, the young Welshman made the first team bench for the very first time!

He was rewarded with a new improved long term deal just two weeks ago, running until the Summer of 2028, so obviously the club know they have a special talent. Whilst the club have done well to get him to this point, he will not continue to develop unless he is playing every week. There is absolutely no point him coming on for the last five minutes of games!!!

Leeds tend to only send their youngsters out on loan to see out the remainder of their contracts, or as an afterthought, usually resulting on them being let go upon their return. In truth, I cannot remember a time when a loan move had a positive influence on a Leeds players development, where they have then kicked on to the next level.

Kinnear did a great job at Arsenal and got the new stadium off the ground and the old Highbury stadium sold off and redeveloped. West Ham then wanted him to oversee the takeover of the new London stadium and enhancing the bottom line. Radz made a shrewd move in getting him to Leeds to look at TA and ER developments and the old Fulton Park, but since the 49ers got involved we have had Peter Lowey who builds all the Westfield shopping centres around the world and much more. Since the full take over and a new bunch of top people from the 49ers there is no longer a need for Angus so I expect him to move on

Morning all. Will be the last of the lame ducks to leave. I’m sure he’ll have a lucrative offer awaiting him somewhere. Football must provide great livings to millions around the world that have never even kicked a ball

Archie Gray has given an Interview. He was content to stay at Leeds until he heard Spurs were after him and he immediately wanted to join. His dad told him has has to join them as they are a massive club, his grandfather also told him he should join them.

We can put to bed the discontent that we could have held on to Gray, he wanted out just like the Rats, absolutely no different, in fact probably worse as he has family history, the rats didn't, he could easily have given Leeds a second season with age firmly on his side.

    Good morning everyone
As we all know their is no loyalty in football these days it's all about ££££, the days of Bremner, Madely & co are long gone, I'm sad to say :(

Agree with every word of this. Have to say it’s difficult to maintain interest in modern day football. I feel sorry for younger fans who will never get to experience the love for a club that us oldies have been lucky to. The glory days of knowing your first team for the entire season ahead. Nobody wanting away. Am I bitter about Archie. Not really. I also couldn’t care less what he achieves from here in fact I hope he wins very same amount of silverware with spurs that Harry Kane did

The Gray family have got a lot of integrity and will never put anything out in the public domain especially as Harry is still here. Archie was forced out 100% and he absolutely wanted to stay. Leeds had also done a promotion of the away shirt with both him and his great uncle Eddie which had to be binned. If that doesn't tell you anything, then sadly as always, people will believe what they want.

Sadly for me, it is seeing how the pr machine from the club gathers pace especially as it was they who activated the clause not Archie.

He is at a new club so there is no way he will say I never wanted to come here. He has to make it work for him.

I’d agree if he said he wanted to and left it at that. He then threw in that both his dad and grandfather both encouraged him and they said it’s a move he has to make, surely no pressure at a new club to throw them into the mix

Archie left. It was a good move for the club financially to avoid points deductions.

However, it was also a very good deal for Archie. It's a decent step up on the pitch but also a huge step up financially.

I'd have done the same if I was owner of the club and I would have done the same as a player.

I don't hold any hard feelings towards anyone over the transfer. It just made sense.

I agree it made sense for the club, it made sense for Archie from a financial point, but too early for a career progression move as he risks very little game time.

He could have turned the move down, my point is the family history at the club and Leeds United meant nothing to the lad as he wanted the move, there really is no loyalty or playing for a club for anything but the money
