Thanks mate - I appreciate that and I have to agree, the moderating part of this job is definitley separate to being a fan like everyone else. I see myself as being on an equal footing with everyone else who uses this board, not in some kind of holier than thou Mod role, which is probably why I've not felt the need to rein in my opinions of Jayram when he's slagging off our club.

That said, I can also appreciate that people don't want to read endless spats. I hate it myself, when I read threads that are just two or three members having a pop at each other, it completely ruins the topic - so for that reason, I take on board and respect the fact that I shouldn't get embroiled in it myself.

I'll still tell Jayram what I think, but I'll just keep it concise <ok>

  2. What exactly is the definition of slagging off our club?

Are fans not allowed by order of the mods here to be critical of the club when they see something wrong?

Do we have to accept everything warts and all? I would have thought that to be constructive in criticism was to show that one was concerned when things were wrong. This, as opposed to merely accepting things as they are. If things are not right, they should be spoken about and changed. What do you think the shareholders who attended the AGM tried to do but were essentially prevented from doing because their questions had to be submitted in advance so they would be ' vetted '.

The whole problem here about not having free discussions is because some mods feel it necessary to counter everything they don't agree with. There are occasions when a steward ought to sit back and allow discussions to continue, not put the dampers on them. This after all is a forum. Free discussion ought to be allowed and encouraged, not stifled.

What's the difference between a mod offering an alternative opinion and anyone else doing it, RVB?

  4. Well PNP

It's not that mods cannot offer their view but when you have a discussion that is punctuated by the constant monotony of the same excuses disguised as reasons for the current state of the team and club then it becomes rather wearing and the discussions get nowhere. Now one may say that the criticisms are becoming wearing but in a forum you have to allow members to let off steam so to speak. If you do not allow the discussion to continue then the same matter will arise time and again. That's when it gets monotonous. Why not just let the discussion reach it's natural conclusion?

And in terms of our club, can anyone really say they are happy with 7th place? That they are really fine with being one man reliant?

    Regards

I don't think anyone should be stifling debate, whether it's between mods or not. But the point was that people don't want to read endless tit for tat spats, which I've been drawn into with Jayram. I wouldn't like to read it from anyone else, so it's only fair that people ask me to stay out of it too <ok>

Arsenal are "one man reliant"? Really? Can we leave the other 10 players out for a rest and still win games?

    Silly comment.

  7. We are one man reliant in the main for scoring goals or hadn't you noticed?

I think you know exactly what I was trying to say.

Perhaps this isn't the best thread to start a debate about us being a 'one man team'

If anyone has anything else to add about the topic, I'm happy to hear it. But otherwise, as Samir suggests I think it's probably best to wrap this thread up.

A couple of points if I may. I want to be frank, but am not setting out to anger anyone...

    1) I see all the overtly negative threads/posts as WUM's. They wind me & some others up which leaves no room for doubt as to what they are.
    2) Not really an option if #1 kicks in as we are entitled to attack WUM's
    3) The weakness in option #3 'reasoned argument' is that it is subjective and open to interpretation (see #1)

Arsenal is my religion. Arsenal fora are my churches. Someone slagging off my club's manager (for example) in my church is akin to walking into the Vatican chanting for a replacement Pope. It's impolite to say the least.

So are you saying that reasoned argument is beyond your capability?

Why are you not able to accept critical comments as fodder for debate? This is after all a forum and a forum is for everyone. You do nothing but ostracize yourself.

I am not saying reasonable argument is beyond the capability of most here, but your aggressive stance proves my point in that 'reasonable' is subjective. I was being reasonable yet you chose to attack me as being unreasonable.

Ostracizing myself from people like you is no great loss to me though :)

If you would rather that those who enter under your roof refrain from criticising the club then fine. However this being a forum you should expect a free exchange of views and not take offence because someone holds a view contrary to yours on the performance of our manager, board, CEO or team.

Why can't you accept a forum for what it is meant to be?

I think the point of this thread Jayram is to understand that we are all allowed to have our opinions, but it needn't mean we need to get embroiled in any spats. I think it was also written in an attempt have some mutual agreement (for you and I in particular) to draw a line under it all and agree to move on. Which I am very happy to do <ok>

Not at all. If you make posts that wind other users up, you get attacked. If you know that your posts are going to wind up other members and still choose to post them, then you are deliberately wumming and shouldn't complain when you get exactly what you are seeking.

Highbury, there are loads of posts & threads pointing out negative aspects of our club & or team that do not get attacked. It is those that continually post nothing but negativity that get the response they are fishing for & deserve imo.
